rumor be told, i heard years ago that the toyota engine that is inside the vibe/matrix was shared or borrowed from the celica, and im guessing... would also be shared in all the vehicles of the scion line then.so has anyone else heard something to this effect?or if someone knows an exact answer... could you set me straight?so far this is the list of vehicles i have found to share this engine:matrixvibecarollacelicarav 4camry prism

nope you are correct the vibe is a toyota in gm skin

I prefer thinking of the Vibe as being a great Pontiac with a Toyota drivetrain.

I agree that a Vibe is a Toyota with Pontiac badges on it. The good thing about that is the fact that Pontiac has a much better eye for design than Toyota does. IMO.Also, I am in love with my 2ZZ.

thanx kamikaze forgot about the prism.and thanx herb, i knew of that rumor of the elise engine as well slipped my mind.you're absolutely right.... the vibe is just rebadged but with better styling.but what i think is the worst thing, which isn't always common knowledge, is that japan also has a 'vibe' and no i dont mean the matrix or the carolla compressorno they went a step backword to produce:the TOYOTA VOLTZsame exact thing as a vibe, even the same arrowhead emblems, but driving position is flipflopped but the two biggest differences, is the euro turn signal in the front fenders and the high visibility red light in the place of the right-hand-side reverse light, yay japan.... not.and thats another thing that annoys me, they produced the same car on two sides of the world for two completely different social hierarchies and still NO DECENT AFTERMARKET PRODUCTSno good bodykits or mods... it sucks.now talk about rebadging, oh the research.

scions do not use either of those engines, they use a 1.3 or a 1.5 and the tc has a 2.4l like the new vibe's.
