How hard you press the pedal, what is your driving style with your 1.8l and 4 speed auto, where the engine RPM goes when you shift form first to second and thirth ? I am refering let say at Stop (example) where not too many people are able to wait behind you while you, for shifting, gentle press the pedal (say no more then 2000 RPM) ... Do you go ofen over 2500 or 3000 RPM to shift ?

The new 1.8L is a lot faster than the 1st gen 1.8L Vibe engine.

IUCU,If you want to compare a 2008 to a 2009, I will be more than happy yo let you drive my vehicle so you can compare. To reach pull HP and Torque, higher RPM's are needed.

I am in process of acomodating myself with higher RPM engines and automatic transmission ! If the car is not mine !!! maybe I can press the pedal to 3000 RPM to shift faster but with mine I am trying to stay at 2000 however I am loosing that passion and I am starting to go higher.. For what I see this engine run anyway between 2000 and 3000 RPM. Hopefully it is a reliable engine, if Corolla has the reputation of 200,000 mile why this one should not ?

They either have to wait behind me, go around me or hit me in the (removed). I neither tarry excessively nor waste gas by jack rabbit starts from a stop. And I let the transmission do the shifting. That's what I bought an AT for.I have never paid attention to the rpms at the shift points.

I am more than willing to let you see the similarities and differences. You must of had an older Explorer to have a 5 speed manual transmission. What year was it, a 1994?

it's been proven that getting up to speed quicker then coasting uses less gas then slow drawn out starts. Your using more throttle for those long gradual up to speed runs than one quick burst and then coast and crack the throttle to keep speed.Try it for a tank of gas and you will see you get better gas mileage. for me: if the speed limit on the road is 45. Starting from a stop I get up to 4500-5000rpm in my first gear and then about 3000 in second... by then I am up to speed then I feather back and just coast and crack the throttle.

Def not the fastest starting off compared to other Vibes. Really need to get the RPM's up there I am sure.

Gen II is definitely quicker off the line with the base engine, as well as being quieter.

I usually take off slower in my vibe than my other cars, but thats because I want it to last forever. Im not concerned about durability, but im just taking it easy. I got 34 mpg last fill up with about 50 miles in town and 140 highway!
