If I were to go to the Toyota dealership to get a cabin air filter for a 2009 Matrix fit my 2009 Vibe? I went to my local Pontiac dealership today and the parts department said that there were none available.. he said probably because they are so new... This doesn't sound right since my car has been in service for over a year and they recommend the cabin air filter to be replaced once a year. Mine is all nasty and dark brown. Also, they quotes me around 42 bucks for it. Would the toyota dealership cost the same or maybe cheaper? Thanks! Also, why Im on here.. would basically any part from the matrix fit my vibe.. when looking for the air filter I noticed that a part behind the glove box said "TOYOTA" so I figure it would..

Or you could go to an auto parts store, tell them you need a cabin air filter for your car. Most places around here carry them.O'reilly Auto Parts has them for like 18 bucks.

As for pricing between Toyota and GM, it'(removed) or miss... some things are cheaper at Toyota, some things are cheaper at GM... You have to do a little homework to find out the exact prices.

For the 2003 - 2008 Model years the vibe and matrix used different cabin air filters so I would not assume the 2009 matrix one would fit a 2009 vibe.

I know that the 03-08's cabin filters are not the same. The vibe filter is about .5" shorter than the matrix cabin filter.Only one way to find out buy one and see if it will fit.

I have to change mine on my 2009 Vibe as well. I own the 2.4L engine and I called a GM vendor which told me the cabin air filter is $99!!! I then called a Toyota dealer and the same filter is sold $33...I then called a few places that specialize in car parts and will buy one at $15. I'm in Quebec, Canada so I don't know if it has the same insane price difference everywhere. All I can tell is that GM are a bunch of thieves trying to sell these filters at close to $100, when I can get one at $15. Even compared to Toyota at $33, it's crazy...

I took the cabin air filter out of my car 150,000 miles ago and never replaced it. Never really thought about it. but now, thinking about all the $100 filters I avoided buying, I can buy a new tires for free with all the money I saved!

Good point. I ride around with the windows down. I walk from the car to the house. The windows on my house don't have filters on them.Just exactly why are they needed?I bet the cabin filter on my 2001 Accord, if it has one, should probably be tossed out. It's probably blocking some airflow by now.

If you have ever looked down a vent pipe, you know that after a while, it can get pretty dusty in there. The eventual result... especially in damp environments, is mold grouth in the ventilation system. That produces the musty smells in some cars when you turn on the fan or A/C . When the Maine Pine trees let all their bright yellow pollen fly during the Spring season, the stuff coats and turns everything yellow, including driveways, roads, house roofs, cars and puts a visible haze in the air for a couple of weeks. That cabin filter kept my interior from turning bright yellow and kept it out of the ventilation system. It really worked very well.

Yeah, it's mostly there to protect your ventilation system, not you.

I found it for 19$ and Crappy Tire (Canadian Tire) much cheaper than the dealer!

When I owned '03 Vibe, I went to Toyota dealer to by a cabin filter. It did not fit. I had go to a GM dealership. I'm not sure if the same is true for the new ones.

I just had this ordeal yesterday for my '03.Went to crappy tire. Their book said it was the same as the Matrix, so I bought it for $20. Did not fit. Went to the parts desk and said I need one for a Vibe. Same thing, 0.5" smaller, but $40. I said screw that.Went to Automotive Warehouse (local parts store) and for $20 they had an aftermarket Fram one that actually looks like it filters something! It's got carbon and some Arm & Hammer thing in it and has some weight to it... as opposed to the OEM piece of folded felt.
