I have a 2003 Base Vibe with 114K miles. I recently replaced the struts/shocks, end links, and the outer tie-rods. Now I have a clunking noise that keeps getting worst. I used to happen everytime I would turn the wheels you would hear a clunking noise. Now just driving it aroung makes the noise. My wife is afraid to drive it now. I'm coming here first to see whats up.Any ideas please? Is this something I can do or should I just take it to pepboys/shop. Should I take it in immediately? I dont the wheel to fall of or anything like that.

CVC joints you want to replace them before the break.

Who replaced everything? you or a shop? Things come lose, have you checked nuts and bolts? When you say it happens all the time, is it when you hit bumps, or ALL the time??

you could have someone turn the steering wheel back and forth while you look under the (stationary) car to see if anything looks like it has play in it

Well I installed everything myself and had the car aligned twice after the shocks and tie-rods. I looked underneath and the cv boots look fine. No tears or grease coming out. Both cv rods move by hand when the car is on the ground. Dont know if that is normal. When the car is in the air both inner tie-rods move. Also dont know if thats is normal.I will have someone tomorrow to help he look underneath for any movement. Is there a way to see if it is the cv joint by looking or moving it?

If you are having a CV problem, you would either hear the noise as something that follows the speed of the car or you would hear it when you accelerate or decelerate... I believe that you can get movement out of them while at a standstill... You say the inner tie rods move? how much, what direction? It's a ball mount, much like the outer tie rod ends.. so if they move in/out along the direction of the shaft, that's a problem, but if they pivot or rotate, I don't think that is an issue.. Have you checked the strut mount bolts? both attaching to the car and the center bolt for the strut itself? did you get the springs and top hats aligned properly when you were putting the struts back together? I'm sure you did, but this is also another big factor in "clunking"

Well I dont have a clicking noise that follows me speed nor di I have a noise when I turn the wheels or going in reverse or drive. I think I remember how a cv joint sounds now that you mention it. I havent had time yet to check underneath while turning the wheel. I'll check all nuts and bolts that migh of came loose.
