Interesting, not knowing anything about the stuff, I assumed it was a solution that would solidify inside the engine. I did not realize the engine would be run until it seized. I wonder if anyone will be injured when these tens of thousands of engines are destroyed. Some of them may self destruct in an exciting and explosive manner.

I see a lot of autowreckers crying foul over this. So you'll have to re-build your old engine instead of swapping it out!

There are alot of these "kill the clunker" videos being posted on youtube.I watched just one video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXfaUjMttU0 (Olds Aurora with the Northstar DOHC V-8 that looks like it was in great condition.)After watching them ruin the engine, I was too disgusted to watch any more of these videos.

I wonder how much fraud this will lead to? How are dealers verifying the destroyed vehicles? Car dealerships are not always the most scrupulous businesses, I can't help but think that at least some of these "destroyed clunkers" are going to be re-sold with swapped VINs.What's to stop a wrecker from pulling the perfectly good engine, and instead crushing some old beat down non-functional engine, then re-selling the parts?

What a complete waste of taxpayer money! Maybe we should start paying $4500 to get old BUREAUCRATS out of Congress instead of crushing old cars.

the really bad thing here is that the engines will have to be stacked up somewhere. The metal is now contaminated and CANNOT be recycled. The liquid glass will contaminate the melted metal and make it brittle, so; the engine can not be used even as scrap metal now. *thumbs downs* Our government at work!! Took 6 weeks to write the rules for the program and 6 days to blow through the money set-up for it.

I've always dream of having a Volvo and seeing one being put off like that makes me sick! (especially that on, it looked clean) I just can't believe that's a proper way to kill a car, that could have send this Volvo to a mechanic school.Quote, originally posted by beemerphile1 »I wonder if anyone will be injured when these tens of thousands of engines are destroyed. So they'll create thousands of jobs so people will buy new cars instead of having tons of clunkers dumped hoping Nature will take care of it.THIS is what I mean:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wP7JY4I6x2oMy 2 cents...PS: I'm not environmentalist at all, I think the Cash for Clunkers can be good as far as they not transform tons of CO2 to tons of unused steel. Though having less CO2 makes the country looking more "environmentally friendly".

Were taking the clunkers off of the roads to save gas and the environment, but now we have these engines sitting around that are rotting in landfills and junkyards. Like tnpartsguy said the metal is contaminated so it isnt re-usable. and some people dont want to get rid of their "clunker", half of the cars i have seen on the news are pretty recent. Once again it is our soon-to-be socialist government at work again....
