I was surprised to see that the majority of states still require plates on front and rear. Here are the 19 that only require a plate on the back. Any error in this list?ALAZARDEFLGAINKSKYLAMIMSNMNCOKPASCTNWV

The police argument that they need front plates to catch criminals is pretty thin. Any decent criminal uses a stolen car - or at least stolen plates.

In Utah you are required to have a front plate, however, you cannot be pulled over for only having a rear plate. They have to have another reason to stop you.

guess I'm lucky that I've lived in one-plate states for the last 15 years or so. Do you dual-plate folks have to pay double for the additional tag? I want to say ours is $30 or so for the single.

Just wanted to let you know that in my home province of Quebec we only have the rear license plate (unlike Ontario that uses the 2 plates)Sam

I would think that Quebec would require two plates - one in English and one in French. Soon in the USA we will need one in English and one in Spanish.

Yeah here in oregon we are supposed to have a front plate also but I have never had one on. I have been pulled over multiple times over the last few years but never a mention about the front plate. It just hangs out in my glove box.

Giving someone a ticket for something like no front plate, a burned out license plate bulb, or failing to signal for a turn is much easier and safer than trying to catch a criminal. When asked the officer will reply, just tell me which laws I am supposed to enforce and which laws I am not supposed to enforce.

Well you don't need to just "believe" . . . it is true. Having lived here all but 2 of my 66 years I can tell you definitely Ohio requires both a front and a rear plate. The few times the legislature considered having Ohio join the rear only plate states law enforcement officials all testified strongly to retain both plates.

When you hear a cop refer to PC, they're talking Probable Cause. I would venture to say that the opposition in Ohio to no longer require a front plate has less to do with identification of a suspect vehicle and more to do with losing a reason to pull over a vehicle (PC) with the hope that there are other infractions. Here's an interesting read with this subject of PC being mentioned by LEOs as it pertains to window tint:
http://forums.officer.com/foru...22983BTW, I enjoyed not having a front plate when I lived in Florida. It would be nice if I could ditch the front tag here in Illinois. One could argue that the increased aerodynamic drag and subsequent reduction in fuel economy caused by the addition of a front plate to a vehicle is in direct opposition to the mantra of the environmentally conscience. I would like to think that my state government would follow the lead of others and allow me to conserve precious limited resources while spewing fewer Co2 emissions into the air by simply eliminating the requirement to have a front tag on my vehicles.PlatinumVibe08
