The plastic housing above the spare tire.I've done some measurements and the cylindrical bowl that fits down over the rim of the spare tire is roughly 640 cubic inches. My measurements were intentionally smaller than the actual dimensions as I cut corners to figure up the odd shapes. I'll seal the plastic cylinder with something glued in the bottom and top (possibly screwed then glued) and maybe I'll reinforce the sides with some solid rings if it seems to flex. The Fosgate says it would like to have at least 691.2 cubic inches. So polyfill will hopefully get it sounding pretty good. I'm not looking to blast vibrations down the block, I just like a little bass is all. Anyway, it will probably be a few weeks before I get all the stuff rounded up and built. I'll post updates here.Any thoughts so far?Is about 640 cubic inches with polyfill good enough for a driver that wants 691.2?

When I did my tub a couple years ago I wasn't very happy with the results, it was decent at best. I ended up ditching the idea of using the tub and made an enclosure to fit in thee spare well. The sub response was much more dynamic., but would still get sloppy in the upper volume region. I believe some of the quirks I had with the second enclosure was due to using a slim line sub. When I did my tub I used a mix of stuff for rigidity and strengthening. I used a product called kitty hair, followed by 2 layers of fiberglass mat and resin, and used some edead to further deaden and add mass to stop resonance. If it were me I would consider building a separate enclosure as the results were night and day difference when I did. I'm sorry, I totally missed this one... You should be fine... Smaller boxes limit your output, but it shouldn't hurt to much, as long as you understand it will be a bit limited..

Yeah I wasn't expecting it to hit like my older subs in the trunk of my Neon, but for keeping the cargo space unmolested I think it'll be a fair tradeoff. If it doesn't work I'll just chalk it up to experience and figure out something else.
