Brake Squeal?

I have a squeal on my driver's front wheel after braking, it goes away after a little bit of driving, but it is doing it almost every time now after being intermittent for about a month. The brakes are currently working fine with no issues but this annoying squeal. I know Whelan had a similar issue and had a couple small parts replaced but can't remember what they were and can't find his thread.

You still have the factory pads right? if memory serves me correct you had about the same mileage as me (in the 30 - 35,000 mile range)Just clearing this up in case people chime in stating it might be the pads... 2nd, did you check pulling the wheel to see if there was anything loose or close the rotor?Just some general questions that might help...

Yes OEM pads. I'm at 48,800 miles right now. I'll pull off the wheel and get a closer look this weekend. Thanks!

I think I found the one with Whelan's issue:http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=32506He had his tires balanced and it went away.. I think when they pulled the wheels to balance, the metal shield by the rotor looked really close and they probably bent it back a little bit so it wasn't so close to the rotor. I know I've done this when i've done tire repair or rotate on tires and didn't even think about it to mention it.

Well the brakes are in excellent condition..the front pads are at 60% and the rear pads are at 80%. No rocks, nothing out of the ordinary. The only thing they could come up with was it was brake dust. They suggested when it happens again to hit the brakes harder then normal to break it loose and ask me to bring it back if it continues or gets worse. So, $25 for diagnosis and slamming the brakes (ie: brake dust removal)...lol.PS - And it only took them 4 hours to figure that out...lol...from the time I dropped it off until the time I picked it up.

I'm still trying to figure this one out. I changed my front brake pads even though they looked almost new (after 74,000 on the stock pads) because I was sick of the squealing. I'm still getting a squeal though. Can someone help?

I get a squeal on mine first thing in the morning as I am backing out of the garage. Other than that, the pads are quiet and at 30k on the OD and the inspection I just had done the guy said he thought they were new. So I am fully expecting to get 100k out of my brakes

Can someone help?Have you ever applied "brake quiet" to the back of the pads? It helps a lot... I usually use a dab of brake grease on the back of the pads... Sometimes, taking the pads out and just grinding the glazed surface off can help a lot... Have you ever done a "proper" pad beading? I feel it really improves the brakes...

I've put on the brake quiet a couple times and it works for 2 days or so then it's back to squealing again.

Well mine came back. It seems to come and go I have also noticed thatit can go away while or after turning or even going over a bump. But it comes back. I'm wondering if it might be the wheel hub or bearings...
