Factory Alarm System questions.

I just bought a 2003 Vibe GT today, so far love the thing. I've been looking around, and it seems that my Vibe doesn't have the security system option. I know where the light should be but, is the light visible when not lit? Should I be able to see clearly the little symbol and the word "security" when the system is unarmed? Also, what about installing this option myself? Would I have to open all the door panels and find every plug, or would it just be simply plugging in the unit itself to the main lead that comes off it? Are the correct parts there and just missing the unit itself?I've searched the forum and haven't found this discussed.Thanks
