Touch-Up Paint

Has anyone got “touch-up” paint for their car’s? I went to the dealer today to get some and they told me that they have “discontinued” this for the ‘03 version! They told me to go to their body shop, and they would “mix” me up some, as a courtesy!

Oh that would just be peachy! I guess there's always Paintstick.com (or whatever that site was) but they're quite a bit more expensive. I hope the dealer just didn't know what they were talking about!

Hope you're right Silver. I guess I'll call my dealer tomorrow and see what they say. Just doesn't seem right to me.

I'm not just doing it to be on the safe side. I have a nice rusting chip in my hood and one on the side. Need to get that taken care of before it gets worse. I'll let you know what Rimrock Pontiac says.

That's the most absurd thing I ever heard. They wouldn't possibly discontinue touch-up paint until maybe the factory is retooled for 04's and the colors are changed over. Even then, they should have some left over.Granted, I can't say that for sure...but still, it makes NO sense they would discontinue the paint so soon.

I'm sure you're right Nova. I just hope I don't need to resort to Paintscratch. I can't see spending $15 on something I could have for $5. Of course if I need it, I guess that's what I do. It's not that big a difference really. Msmyer, I'll keep you posted on what I find out from Rimrock.

Couldn't you just buy the 04 colours? They are the same colours, with the exception of the new one.

Yes, I would imagine so. I doubt they've changed the formula or anything. I'm more curious as to why they're saying they've discontinued it.

One time, the black became more of a charcoal, even though they were both black. Another time, I saw a silver that was more flat than metallic...They do make minor changes in colors often. But I still find it impossible to believe they discontinued touch-up. Now, it could be on backorder. That happened to me in January. It was in such demand, they wouldn't be able to get it to me for another month. But as for flat out discontinued, I just don't buy it.Call Pontiac directly and ask them for the real deal:Inside the U.S.: 1-800-762-2737 Inside Canada: 1-800-263-3777

LoL

UPDATE: I went back to the dealer to get my touch-up paint, and they didn't have any made, nor would they make any til other "shadow vibes"owners need it! (Because "it's $102/ pint")....So they told me they would call me! Geez, all I want it a bottle of touch-up paint, not blood! You would think that they would give a bottle to everyone that purchases a new car!

quote: You would think that they would give a bottle to everyone that purchases a new car! That's interesting. I would love to buy a car some day and pop open the glove compartment when I take delivery and see a small bottle of touch up paint staring at me...maybe with a little note that says "we want you to be happy with your car. But for those minor road hazards that you can't avoid, here's a band-aid." Something like that. Something that says hey, we know you need this, we're not gonna steal all your money in exchange for it eihter. besides, you just gave us $20,000, the least we can do is give you a $10 bottle of paint. Now, as to this "matching" I don't know what that's all about. When I got my touchu paint, it looked like it was factory sent. I don't know why the dealers would be mixing it, as it would be next to impossible to get an exact match. Here's the bottle I got:

Yours probably was, that's what I was talking about earlier, in being discontinued.quote: I don't know why the dealers would be mixing it, as it would be next to impossible to get an exact match. The dealer body shop had to get the paint code from my glove box. So they probably have a machine that does it there, if they have to paint cars!
