Someone has to have the Proform shift light listed in the "Mods" section on Genvibe. I am thinking about getting one but I'm not sure about hooking it up. What wire do you splice the green wire into? Any help is appreciated. Thanks,ND

i dont have one one the vibe but on my old pontiac i spliced into the tach output wire on the ecu youll need a pin out wiring diagram(i think someone posted one here a while back)or if have a multimeter pop off the instrument panel and see which wire goes to the tach its voltage which change when you step on and off the gas

I know ragecyr from matrixowners.com has a shift light on his automatic...might wanna ask him where he attached his to...not sure if it's the same brand, but I'd imagine they all install similarly...

No kidding. He does. He said you can actually get an extra 500 RPM by manually shifting the automatic...

Autos are very beneficial in racing. Most fast cars at the track etc. are automatic simply because they get of the line quicker and because an auto shifts alot faster. If you put an auto in first you can bring it up to any RPM you want, and then manually shift it while the clutch is automatic. I have a trw trans (auto) in my 79 malibu with a b&m shifter and its good for low 12's to high 11 second runs. I just hold the brake and bring the RPMs up then let go to launch.

As previously mentioned, ragecyr told me you can actually get extra RPM's out of each gear by manually upshifting...the car always upshifts a bit early he said...the light gets him that extra bit of power...

quote:but there is no reason to have a shift light on a Automatic Trans.Yes there is in drag racing. Most people who run autos in drag racing use a shift light to shift at the exact RPM they want. Allowing the trans to shift on it's own isn't always the fastest way down the track. Most autos shift too early for the best ET.

sure there is a point of having a light on a street car...maybe he likes racing and just wants to be reminded when to shift. Also, it looks cool btw, i have an accel shift light on my malibu and love it.

I'm preatty sure of this info, but just in case, test the wire with a test light before completing the connection. If is always safier to check 2 times before connecting something.
