How do you get the most mpg out of your vibe?

Recently I have been hearing people stating that they can get around 30-40 mpg on their vibes. I was wondering what they are doing to get these figures. I know to keep the tires at a good weight and i guess drive slower but is there anything else?

my method:1. drive a stick2. don't use the brakes, use the gears and engine compression for slowing down :D

I've gotten 35+ out of my 1.8 2007 automatic. This was on I 95 at travel speeds down through Jersey and south of Baltimore and DC. It was an average of several tank fulls. If you know that area, slow traffic is 70 MPH with cruising speeds much higher.Around town I can count on 30 like clock work.I drive as conservatively as one can in NJ traffic. Gentle starts and plan ahead for braking, pisses people off but hey, I'm in front of them!Dave

Where ever you go, make sure it's down hill and coast in neutral with the engine off. Makes the steering and brakes a little stiff though.

...it's like selling REAL ESTATE...cruise control, cruise control, cruise control...instead of location, location, location.

Anyone try "pulse and glide"? http://www.metrompg.com/posts/pulse-and-glide.htm"Pulse and glide works like this: let's say you're on a road where you want to go 60 km/h. Instead of driving along at a steady 60, you instead accelerate to 70 (that's the pulse), and then coast in neutral with the engine off down to 50 (that's the glide). That's it. Rinse and repeat. And repeat. And repeat..."Personally I'd prefer a bullet to the head, but the author of the linked page claims he improved his mpg, at an average speed of 50 mph, in a Geo Metro, from 59 mpg to 68 mpg.

This method might work in certain areas, but not where I live. When I travel 45 minutes south of my house I get over 40 mpg, I drop almost 3000 ft. On the way north, going up 3000 ft, I don't get that kind of mileage. I usually get 32-33 mpg round-trip. Driving like this causes problems. Keep up with the flow of traffic. If your speed regularly 20 mph (50-70) you are a hazard.

I have a 09 1.8 manual and my COMBINED is just above 33MPG(check my sig for more details)I use the following hypermiling techniques:ICE on coasting--coast in neutral with the engine on so as not to loose your momentum like you would in gear.FAS--Forced Auto Stop--turning off your engine and coasting down hills and to stops--and keep it off when not moving. On my 30 mile(one way) daily commute, I get about 2.5 free miles doing this every day.Inflate tires to maximum--reduces rolling resistance.short shift--I try to shift at 2000 rpm or less.go the speed limit, or close to it.plan your route so that you have a minimum of complete stops. Try to not use your brakes---this means not slowing down for corners and keeping a buffer between u and the car in front of you so that they can slow down/turn without you having to slow down.

The majority of us are not seeing those kind of numbers. Around town I can count on 24 mpg (or a little less) like clockwork on my '09 18L AT. That was the same on my '03 1.8L AT. On a long trip I could get in the 32-33 mpg range driving 65-75.

Hey I sound like a SG salesman. I was going to mention it, but I don't have one yet. I want one so that I can find my optimal mpg speed and to help with my DWL.

Try a simple Vacuum gauge, it works better then you think!
