it's been an issue with some. Only options are to live with it, or replace it with an aftermarket unit, or a factory unit that someone sells off after installing a new aftermarket headunit. Some have tried to replace the inner workings but i think the time spent would be worth upgrading to a new unit.

Do you have the Sun&Sond package, and if you go into radio mode, do you see it change when you adjust the tuning? If so, there'd be an external amp under the front passenger seat, and I think it runs from a separate fuse, maybe you'll be lucky and it 'll be a cheap fuse.

The symptoms you describe are actually reverse of what happened to me and most others with the stock radio in those years. I have on 05 and had the original radio replaced because the bulbs in the radio blew. The replacement did the same thing. The radio still functions but you can't see parts of the screen. I ended up putting a double-din aftermarket unit in.
