I crashed my Vibe

Last night, driving on the highway in the rain on my way home from the Casino, I hit a huge puddle of water. Unfortunately I started hydroplaning. My front end started moving around and then next thing I know my car shoots over to the right and hits the barrier seperating me from oncoming traffic doing 80 km/h. Apparently I bounced off of it 2 or 3 times, but I only remember hitting it the one time. The airbags didn't deploy, which was good (cheaper), but also surprsing based on how hard we hit the barrier.I got out to inspect the damage and it looked driveable, so I drove it to a gas station to look at it out of the rain, while my buddy followed me in his car. I decided goign through insurance for this was a bad idea for this situation. the cost I estimated for the damages outweighed the cost that my insurance company would charge me for the next few years. The damage is definitely not good, but it could be worse. The frame didn't crack, and neither did the radiator. That alone makes me a little more at ease. Everything can be bent back into place from what it looks like. The bumper is toast, so is my drivers side fog light. Headlights are intact. Both quarter panels will probably need to be replaced or just hammered out. My CAI didn't survive, so she's gonna have to be turned into an SRI because the very end of it is crumpled (the cone is smooshed, but we taped it on so I could drive it home). The wheels will need to be aligned: my steering wheel was turned sideways just to go straight the whole way home.I took some pictures, but I haven't got the chance to upload them yet today. I will do it as soon as I get a chance.Luckily everyone was okay. Me and my two passengers just got some whiplash. It could have been way worse than it had been, so I am thankful for that. Had someone been tailgating me, I think the outcome would have been much worse.

[Quote, originally posted by lovemyraffe »Glad you are ok.+1 Good luck getting the car back in order dude.Quote, originally posted by Amtron ». Both quarter panels will probably need to be replaced or just hammered out. If I were in your situation, I'd just replace the fog light, hammer the panels out, and cover it with a Le Bra front lower cover. I scraped the hell out of my front bumper when my lazy apartment supers stopped putting salt in my ice filled parking garage last winter, and for now the lower bra covers it like a charm. By the time I can afford to replace panels and paint a car knowing it's going to be scratched soon anyway, I will be driving a better car than a base Vibe!

Glad to hear everyone is OK, which is the main thing. I know repairs can be a pain, but that's really secondary

I will check the tires next time I see my car, and I will let you know.Quote, originally posted by Sputnik »What road were you on? I'm pretty sure the one in Gatineau is closer to Kanata. Or I could be wrong? Anyone from Ottawa know?

And I will let you know if I need any help. I'm planning on doing the body work myself since it's only nuts and bolts where there's any problems.

My dad had the same thing happen to him, you're lucky, his vette was totaled.Glad you are all okay.

So it looks like it's going to be a write-off.... It won't run properly anymore for some reason, which is strange because it had been running fine until I parked it for a week in the rain. It keeps stalling if the rpm's go too low. The motor mounts are all bent, so there's violent shaking of the engine when it's running.I got a quote today for $7797.99. Yay.Now I'm deciding between not claiming it through insurance and selling it to the junkyard/parting it out. OR going through insurance and seeing what they say. Depends how much I would get for each. Can anyone give me suggestions or prices for what I would be getting with each option? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Wow, she didn't take a whole lot of damage. It could have been much worse, it looks like a lot of the expensive stuff is still alright (headlights, radiator, etc.) so you shouldn't be out a whole lot of money. Oh and you will like having an sri, haha :D

I thought the damage was going to be much worse. Looks like a great project.

Definitely looks like that smarts. It is a bit worse than mine mainly because of the fenders. You should be able to find new bumper covers and fenders at a salvage yard. This was my damage from a month agohttp://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=37338

So it's a lot worse than it looks. Gouged up bumper, bent frame and body panels plus paint, I can see it running at least that muchMy cousin used to curb cars and one of the things he did to make a poor mans frame puller was to drill 4 holes in his garage floor, insert heavy duty metal poles in them then attach chains to the poles and car and use a come-along to stretch the frame back to where they're supposed to be.

ah I cant see pics at work. but if your car doesnt run right and you need a vehicle just claim it. It will save time and money to get it fixed or totaled now. My crash was like that, the repair place said only 10k. but when Farmers went to see it they said 15k and my insurance said 13k at least. so it was totaled.
