Last summer I have upgraded my 2D-cell Maglite with the official Mag LED bulb for about 30$CDN. I tried it without changing the batteries which were already making the standard bulb fainting away and I was amazed how powerful the beam was.Last week I forgot -- again -- my maglite in a customer site but this time I knew I left the light on on it and I was 75km away from the site. I had to go back 2 days later and the light was still running as normal! And I still didn't change the batteries in it!I'm always leaving my Maglite in my car all year long so it got into all extreme temperatures from -40C to +40C.So I think its a great investment especially since they sell the Maglite with LED package for under 20 bucks:
http://www.amazon.com/MAGLITE-...=8-11 PROs:- Powerful beam- Energy efficient!!!- As always, waterproof, solid casing- It will last forever with minimum maintenance.Con:- Blue-ish beam that makes hard to find wire colors under the dash

they are great though i don't have the LED conversion yet. Only bad part is when a battery leaks inside the casing welding everything together That took me quite awhile to pry it out and clean it up. I have the three "d" size I also have a few "aa" sizes kicking around

Family has an assorted collection of 5 D Cell Maglites. They are used for tracking injured game during the night.

My dad used to carry one back in the 80s when working at the Convair plants in San Diego (when they still build cruise missiles and whatnot). D-cell with the halogen (I think?) bulb. I think he always wanted the chance to blind someone and then beat the hell out of them with it .
