Fog Light glass ideas?

I lost out on a bid on a reasonably priced e-bay fog light for a passenger side fog light for my 03 Vibe. I see others on there for sale, but I think $40+ and shipping for a used light is a bit rediculous. Now that I have the housing out, do you think I can go to a glass shop and get a thick piece of cut glass and cement it to the housing and put it back in? My sylvania bulb works just fine. I hate the thought of throwing away the whole housing just because the glass is broken. I went to Amy's website and put a bid on the 8 or so passenger side fog lights they have from their totalled vehicles but I have not heard back from them. I guess they like storing all those used Vibe parts in bulk and not making a sale. Thoughts?

Did I read somewhere before that you failed inspection because of the light being broken? Putting a piece of glass on the housing probably won't be of help in that department since plain glass won't allow for the proper beam pattern that the OEM glass had. Plus no DOT markings and such, if your inspection agency looks at things like that.

A few guys up here have used plexiglass, and just cemented it on.But as Colonel said will that pass inspection?

Great points all. After I removed the entire light housing, my wife took the car back to the bozo who was such a hard @zz. My wife said: "there you go, it has been removed so it is not a hazard any longer." The bozo mechanic said that he told my wife to remove both of them or fix both of them to pass. My wife first politely told bozo that he said "to remove it." The word IT means one; the word THEY means both. I remove IT. He continued to be a jerk, at which point my wife slid into a four letter barage against bozo, attempting to take as much business away from him as possible. She then left with some more....how would Spock say it...."colorful metaphors" and took the car to another gas station. She repaid her $16 and was given a passing inspection sticker. I have no plans on removing a perfectly good fog light, nor replacing the other one with a used lamp for more than $40. I'm not concerned about what will happen in 12 months from now, now that I have a passing sticker. I may take the housing to a glass dealer and see what they can do for me. The plexiglass idea sounds like the best idea to me. Thanks again.

LOL, way to go for her laying the smackdown on 'em. Since you're not worried about the inspection, sure - try your own lens in glass or plexiglass and see how that goes. Next year just take them out or hope that whoever you go to next year doesn't care. Inspections must be a PITA... They don't do 'em here, but on the flip side, you should see some of the crapboxes that people somehow consider "road worthy." heh

trask is going to give me a light . All hail trask. What a nice gesture from one of our Vibe family!! Shipping to the Delta Quadrant could be a bit problematic however
