Fog lamps 101? What am i doing wrong?

Does anybody have a little 101 information on how the fog lamps work on a 2005 model Vibe? I don't know when and how mine should work. The thing that confuses me is the automatic headlights when it gets dark outside, do those somehow work with my fog lights? mine will NOT turn on under any circumstance, so I think they are broken somehow. Everything on the lamps is new, a new relay didn't even do the trick, and the fuse is good too. When i bypass the relay with a wire they turn on. Please help!

from the manual i have that is for the 03/04 it reads: "Fog Relay: closed with light control SW at Head position, dimmer SW at Low position and fog light SW at On position." in other words, the lights need to be full on (either by manual switch or automatically. no DRL), the brights need to be off, and the switch for the fogs need to be on.

Correct. Your headlights must be fully on. To do a simple test, start the car; take OFF your emergency brake; turn your lights on manually, and then turn the inner ring to turn on the fog lights. If they are still not on , there is a problem.
