Hey, questions for you ladies and gentlemen, ('06 Vibe)I use FRAM oil filter (keep the barbs to yourselves...I've been using FRAM since 1996 and no problems ever)and I usually put on a certain size as dictated in the littlebooks in Autozone or what have you. That size has been PH4967. But the guy last night looked it up in the computer at the storeand gave me a PH4386. Now, I put it on and it fits the same (as in...same diameter) butITS AN INCH LONGER THAN THE OTHER FILTER I'VE BEEN USING!Is this of NO CONSEQUENCE OR IMPORTANCE?I just wanted your input.thanks.

Seems like they gave you the oil filter maybe for the 2zz. Maybe add a little more oil for compensate for the difference.

hmmmm, interesting thought, i will keep tabs on the oil level regarding that.thanks for the tip brother

I manage a quick lube and we interchange those filters all the time. I can look up the specs at work but I believe the only difference is the height.

I always use the PH4967 but have used the other when the PH4967 was out of stock. The longer filter has more media but also is a higher risk to get hit by a stone or something else.

Yes, on some cars, while the filter will screw on and seal properly the extra length will/can touch a part of the chassis when the engine is under torque. Take a look and make sure you have plenty of clearance before running it. You don't want a puncture and the resulting loss of oil while driving.Dave

where the oil filter is located and how it is oriented, an inch longer won't pose any real increased risk of physical damage or contact with other parts. One of the things that makes changing the oil easier in these cars is the filter hangs clear and vertical, so when you unscrew it, the oil runs down the filter and not down the side of the block like on most everything else I ever changed the oil in. I don't know the set up in the 09 engines.

I prefer Purolator, so I'm not familiar with FRAM part numbers, but it sounds like he sold you the 2zz filter. I always use the 2zz filter on my 1zz. I figure more filter length = more fiter area. Bigger has to be better, right?

hey you kids are great, you really alleviated some of my fears. There is no clearance issue that i can see as there is quite a bit of space around the thing, so I will let it go. The funny thing is I even told the guy it was a base...as in..NON GT!Anyway, thanks again!

joatmon, you speak the truth brother! One of the worst cases of oil runoff from unscrewing a filter I ever had was on a 1995 SHO (automatic)... the filter was at a 45 degree angle (of course) and was right above the freaking STARTER!!! So imagine my surprise when the first time i did it i soaked the starter. After that I used a piece of cardboard to kind of funnel it into the oil catch....basin...thing i use.

I've used the K&N filter HP-1002 (HP-1003 is the correct size) for several years now. Like the Fram you talked about, it is maybe 3/4" longer but the can is also a bit wider (seats fine though). I've had absolutely no problem at all. My last Oil change I decided to try the Fram Extended Guard 3614 filter. It is basically the same size as the HP-1002. So far no issues and I'm just about ready to pass 130,000 miles too.Dave
