What are the cam specs for both 1zz and 2zz

Anybody know the cam specs? I'm just curious...It would also be cool to compare the cam specs on the 2zz's high and low rpm lobes.

I would be interested in this information too!!

1ZZ FE:Intake lift = 9.3 mm (0.37 in)Exhaust lift = 8.4 mm (0.33 in)Intake valve dia = 32.0 mm (1.26 in)Exhaust valve dia = 27.5 mm (1.08 in)2ZZ GE (below 6200-rpm / above 6200-rpm):Intake = 7.25 mm (0.29 in) / 11.2 mm (0.44 in)Exhaust = 7.25 mm (0.29 in) / 10.0 mm (0.39 in)Intake valve dia = 34.0 mm (1.34 in)Exhaust valve dia = 29.0 mm (1.14 in)

only .29 lift on the 2zz...that is the lowest lift number I've seen so far, but I honestly haven't seen cam specs for other small 4 cylinders. Do you have any duration numbers or LSA's?

Two things to remember:1 - the valve diameter makes a difference. The GT has a lower valve lift (under 6200-rpm) than the base but it also has larger valves.2 - with 2 intakes valves per cylinder (and 2 exhaust), you don't need alot of lift.

ahh right. Most of the cam specs I deal with are all normal GM engines, 2 valve pushrod torque beasts!

How about duration #'s? I don't know alot about the "variable" in the valve timing, but does it adjust the angle between centerlines according to rpm?

No, it doesn't. That's camshaft phasing. This is only variable valve lift, which is step by step. BMW's VANOS can adjust lift and duration continuously (within a range) though. They don't even need a throttle! oops - my mistake, I forgot that these engines do phase camshafts....sorry about that.

My understand is that VANOS is variable valve timing. It has nothing to do with lift. If that were the case, then we'd be dealing with camless motors if VANOS could infinitely adjust lift within a specified range.

quote:How about duration #'s? I don't know alot about the "variable" in the valve timing, but does it adjust the angle between centerlines according to rpm?The Variable Valve Timing advances or retards the intake cam only. For the 1ZZ-FE, the duration doesn't change just the opening and closing timing. For example, if the intake opening is advanced 2-deg, the intake closing is also advanced 2-deg to maintain the same duration. For the 2ZZ-GE, the duration only changes when the high speed lift is activated and it is a single step, not varied. The timing, however, is varied just like the 1ZZ-FE valve timing changes. Same for the lift. It's a single step from low lift to high lift.1ZZ FE:Intake valve dia = 32.0 mm (1.26 in)Exhaust valve dia = 27.5 mm (1.08 in)Intake lift = 9.3 mm (0.37 in)Exhaust lift = 8.4 mm (0.33 in)Intake duration = 240-deg (VVT timing = 5 BTDC to 55 ABDC thru 48 BTDC to 12 ABDC) VVT varies cam timing a total of 43-degExhaust duration = 224-deg (42 BBDC to 2 ATDC)2ZZ GE:Intake valve dia = 34.0 mm (1.34 in)Exhaust valve dia = 29.0 mm (1.14 in)Under 6200-rpm:Intake lift = 7.25 mm (0.29 in)Exhaust lift = 7.25 mm (0.29 in)Intake duration = 248-deg (VVT timing = 10 BTDC to 58 ABDC thru 53 BTDC to 15 ABDC) VVT varies cam timing a total of 43-degExhaust duration = 228-deg (34 BBDC to 14 ATDC)Above 6200-rpm:Intake lift = 11.2 mm (0.44 in)Exhaust lift = 10.0 mm (0.39 in)Intake duration = 292-deg (VVT timing = 15 BTDC to 97 ABDC thru 58 BTDC to 54 ABDC) VVT varies cam timing a total of 43-degExhaust duration = 276-deg (60 BBDC to 36 ATDC)BTDC = Before Top Dead CenterABDC = After Bottom Dead CenterBBDC = Before Bottom Dead CenterATDC = After Top Dead Center

Thanks for clearing that up Nova, I totally forgot that these engines could phase cams too. Where do you get all this information? Could you maybe do one more request? That is, duration at 0.050 inch lift? Thanks for the above info too!

I've looked for duration @ .050" lift but couldn't find it listed anywhere.

ttt, any new info? I was really hoping for something more traditional, likeintake duration/exhaust duration, intake lift/exhaust lift, lobe separation angleex.Stock Grand Prix L36/L67 CAM 182/190 .412/.408 115with 1.6 '' rocker

You can't list it "traditional" because there is variable valve timing and lift.
