opinions -- removing premuffler/resonator

on my 2000 accord v6 coupe i had stock mufflers and it was very quiet. i had a muffler shop removed the premuffler and replaced it with a straight pipe and i got a bit more exhaust note.i was looking under the car and there's a long premuffler, resonator, or whatever you call it. that thing is right after the cat so shouldn't affect anything. you think it might sound nice on a 4cyl car? i just wanted a bit more noise without having to change the exhaust lol

That resonator is there to tone down some particular frequency of noise. I think if you remove it you stand the chance of getting a lot of noise when you don't want it, like cruising down the highway. Nothing worse than a constantly droning/buzzing 4-cyl for hours on end.

It's been done on the Vibe and it sounds bad, ricey, raspy, buzzy. NR

I removed the pre-muffler resonator on my GTI VR6, and was not happy with the results. It sounded a little better at idle, but caused a drone (resonence) at certain RPM's. It wasn't something that I couldn't live with but I would not do it again unless someone else was the guinea-pig and their car didn't drone.

i removed the resonators on my 04 vibe and replaced them with a small glass pack of course im also running a vibrant metal core cat and vibrant tpv turbo muffler but it sounds pretty good the exhuast itself doesnt resonate too bad and it sounds more like a modded 2L car than a 1.8
