Feeling the itch to trade in my 06 for a 09

I have to drive by the dealership in order to get to work and i cant seem to take my eyes off the 09's especially the red one. I keep telling myself that its not a good idea to trade in my 06 with - the cost, the MPH, the insurance, and hassle. I guess i just need to have someone re-enforce my logical side but I really want a red GT with a sunroof. What would you guys do?

Without knowing your financial situation, I would recommend you resist. Times are shaky and will be for a while longer.

You are just at the point where your depreciation levels out and your cost per mile of ownership goes way down. Take good care of your 06.My 03 (now my son's) is still going strong.

I know the feeling. A friend from work just bought a new Corolla S. It's really nice. Makes me want to look at a new Vibe. Must avoid dealership at all cost.

What would you guys do?I am always in the market for a new car - if the deal is really really good. I always read the auto ads on Saturday. Just keep your eyes peeled for a deal that is too good to pass up - and sell your '06 privately for at least $2,000 more than the dealer will give you in trade.MPG on the 2.4 GT obviously will be less than the 1.8. The slight decline in '09 EPA mileage is due to the way EPA does the calculation. I had an '03 - my insurance only increased about 5% on the '09. You might not even see that depending on the discount they give you for anti-lock brakes, side airbags and stability control. I was already getting that those discounts even though I told the agent my '03 did not have those features.

That's why I'm still loving driving my 04.

Go ahead and get the new one. Enjoy the sunroof! You only live once and you can't take the money with you!

I must say that I have no regrets about getting an '09 and selling my '03. The acid test is the priorities for your resources and then whether the absolute cost is worth to you. You don't know the cost until you ask.

I had the itch to trade in my 06 for a 09 --- if the price is right and you get good value for your trade-in -- do it

Not to sound "off" but how does this relate to "Handling, Suspension, & Brakes" ??? That is the section we are in, correct?

I say do it. IF you can afford the payments or have the ability just to purchase.Life is short as has already been mentioned. A sunroof is a wonderful thing to have though quite honestly the reality of having one doesn't quite measure up the the romance of wanting one. I find the "thrill" wears off. Then again, I've got a 95 Sunbird Convertible (near perfect shape, and yes, I've had head problems!) where the whole roof folds away so a tiny little hole in the roof had no real "excitement".Purchasing a new car will never be a "good" investment financially but it sure is a kick in the pants!!!(I also don't see a handling topic here, maybe the 09 GT handles better than the 06??)Dave

I always get the itch to trade up on my vehicles. If your financial situation is stable and you get a decent trade on you 06, then go for it. Just remember that bigger engine means lower MPG. You just have to weigh your options and go from there.
