Suggestions on getting painted

Post by breezd »

Hey Everyone-Lookin for suggestions on where to go to get my Vibe painted. Gonna go monotone and gotta get the Sport Kit painted...Do you think a regular "Collision Repair" shop would do this? Or will I need to go to a place that specializes in "custom" paint jobs?Any rough guess on what I'm gonna be lookin at spending?

PLEASE please please investigate shops thoroughly...check your local BBB, consumer resources, ask your insurance agent for references on licensed, ASE Certified shops, when you go in for estimates, observe the employees and the shop, ask to meet the owner (if possible)...chances are if he's a real moron, then he doesn't care about QUALITY...just out to get your hard earned money and out the door as fast as possible.I wish you the best of luck and want to see a stunning project!

I do know pretty well what to look for in a good auto body shop. I went to college for auto body (but didn't finish). I know how to paint, I just don't have the place and time to do it. Don't worry, no Capone's for me (or anything like it for that fact!)

I had my upper spoiler and eyelids from my Vibe and the driver's side mirror painted at a local collision shop and they did an excellent job. My upper spoiler still looks like it was just painted and it's over 3 years old now. They even offered a 12 month warranty on the paint for any defects. I have both Mid and Upper Spoilers painted for $185 (I think) and the eyelids were $80. Obviously if you have everything painted at once it iwll be cheaper than if you had each thing painted separately. Good Luck, man! Can't wait to see pics when it is done and on your car.

Well I went to a couple places today...One of the places, a collision repair shop, said they won't do it cause its not "collision repair".The other shop told me to come back on Saturday to talk to the paint guy to see whether they will do it or not. Both places said that they won't (or probably won't) do it because of the texture of the cladding and possibility of cracking/peeling in the future.I'm gonna check around at a few other places soon. Hopefully I will find someone that will do it...

A couple people here have got it done.Plus, the cladding that's on the doors only comes grey textured,so they have to paint it anyways.I would stay away from the collision places, and go to a body shop.
