2009 Vibe...I need to reset the tire pressure monitor. The owners manual shows a picture of the reset button which appears to ne near the steering wheel but I cannot locate it. Can anyone help me find the darn thing?
It's under the dash, to the right side of the steering column. Slide your hand around under there & you'll find it. Getting it to reset is another matter.... I've tried everything & mine won't do it.
Stupid question here:I swapped my oem alloys for steel wheels with no TPMS for the winter and now I'm getting ready to put back the alloys. Do I need to reset the TPMS?

I've tried everything & mine won't do it.It depends if it's a direct sensing or indirect sensing system. An indirect sensing uses all of the speed sensors to determine the air pressure of the tires. It operates on the principle that an underinflated tire will rotate at a faster velocity than a correctly inflated tire, therefore setting the alarm off in the system, but if all 4 tires are underinflated then the alarm won't go off. To reset this system, you press a button to zero the system on the dash or through the on-board computer. If one of your tires is underinflated while trying to zero it, then you will not have a correct reading. Before you try to recalibrate the system, make sure your tires are set to the correct pressure spec. Direct Sensing can identify a simultaneous underinflation in all four tires in any combination. It uses a radio frequency or an electromagnetic coupling to determine if the tire's rotating pressure meets the factory's preset spec for inflation. If not, then the alarm will go off in the system. These types of systems don't need to be reset even after a rotation or a replacement of a tire...they are usually self learning systems.I hope that helps.

I found some used factory alloy rims from a 2004 Vibe and i am wanting to know if it will make a difference to my warranty etc on my 1.8 2009 Vibe if I put them on as they don't have the TPMS you are talking about. Does this matter or should i be only looking at rims that have this system? Thanks
Don't worry about your warranty with wheels without TPMS sensor. The only difference is that your wheels won't be monitored. (not a big problem in my opinion...) I have aftermarket wheels on my 09 without TPMS.
I was planning on buying some new 18's from tire rack and they do sell tpm sensors. They have dropped in price significantly since I check that website all the time for specials . I have the 09' base model so I was planning to keep those 16" steelies for the winter. When i first got my vibe (september 08') those sensors were selling on tirerack for US$350/sensor!! they have since dropped to about US$90/ sensor. Now i'm guessing i would have to take it to the dealer to have the tpms re-learn the other 4 sensors every 6 months when swapping from winter tires to summers, which will be a pain in the @$$. My vibe hasn't seen the dealer and or mechanic once and I intend to keep it that way! Has anyone actually done this already? I would really prefer not to: a) leave the light on all summer. b) stick a piece of black electrical tape over the light or my favourite c) rig up an ABS/PVC enclosed pipe device to house all the sensors and simulate the required tire pressure within the sealed pipe. I find it amazing, the lengths people would go through to get rid of an idiot light. I have a 65km commute each eay to work, and small kids, so sometimes I don't have the time to check the tire pressure. I do most of the time but not all the time. Since I've had the car the light has come on once and good thing that it did. Btw I believe only the 08's have the indirect tpms which does not have actual sensor built into the valve stem. Us 09'ers have the direct measuring system.

I have a 2010 Vibe and the TPM light lit up last week. I checked all four tires and they were between 27 and 28 lbs. The door sticker said 32 lbs. I tried a reset, but it didn't work, so I blew all four tires to 31 to 32 lbs, did the reset, and the light went off. That darn thing is SENSITIVE. I'm guessing that since I bought the car in August and it is now late October, that the temp drop dropped the pressure. A rough estimate has always been a pound of loss for each 10 degrees in temp drop.
When we put my brother's factory wheels back on his '09 this fall, I rotated them from their original locations, and the light stayed on. I then turned the ignition on (but not start), held the button down for a few seconds, and then let it sit there for about 3 minutes, and the light went out. No problems since. That's essentially the procedure in the manual - except they don't specify how long it may take. I think they say "several minutes". Strange system - but whatever works. Not too surprising that the light would come on with the tires down to 27 lbs. That's nearly 15% underinflation from 32. At least you know it's working.I'm not looking forward to the light being on all winter for me. Perhaps a piece of tape will do the trick! I just don't like to learn to ignore lights on the dash - some of them are pretty important!John
I had a low (24 psi) rear tire - light came on. Reinflated that tire - no more light. Didn't have to reset. Cannot understand how it got low - seems to be maintaining pressure now. Was not long after LOF - apparently the dealer did not check the tire pressures as they claim they to do as part of that service.

My light came on back in October. All four tires were 28psi; aired them up and after a few minutes the light went out on its own.Just had the tires rotated and no light.
Everyone needs to remember that tires slowly lose air over time. Temperature variations also affect pressures, like Vulcan said... 10 degrees F will result in about a drop of one psi if colder and about one psi higher if warmer.Best thing to do is get in the habit of checking your tire pressure once every couple of weeks to maintain optimum pressure. Low tire pressure overheats your tire and that can cause premature failure, also wears tire's shoulders quicker, makes your car's steering response nasty and eats up extra fuel... and that stuff is pretty expensive. Checking a couple of times a month will help you keep your tire's pressure where it should be so your tires will last longer and you get better fuel mileage. On both those counts, you save $$$. A very good thing! It's not that hard to do.
