Just found an 08 vibe after about a year of looking for the right deal. I am going to be installing a trailer hitch (and yakima/thule system) for schlepping all our around.I was wondering if those of that have towed before turn off the overdrive? I have a the automatic which i beleive is just a four speed so i would think not. thanks for your help. ps ive had it for 5 days, put on over 1k miles and loved every minute of it!!!

Welcome! I can't help with the towing stuff, but definitely can help with the rack options.

I'm not sure about with a Vibe, but when I'm hauling using our Ram to haul my horse trailer I put it in tow/haul mode which keeps it from going into overdrive. I'm not really sure if thats even relevant to you because I'm pretty unfamiliar with Vibes, I've only had mine since Wednesday lol.

Might want to look into a transmission cooler, seems pretty easy from the posts on here about it. Have fun fighting the search function on here!

I would ask the hitch installer about a trans cooler, provided its not uhaul. I dont think Id trust them exposing my trans to open air.

Trans cooler is a good choice if you plan on towing in general. I would personally turn the overdrive off just to keep it from shifting around all the time...that will cook your trans pretty fast. I believe the max towing for a vibe is 1500lbs so keep that in mind. I'm glad you like your new vibe!

thanks everyone. I'm installing the hitch this weekend and will see how it does. its just a small 4x7 trailer, i doubt it would be over 1k lbs. I think the tranny cooler is a good idea, i will check it out. I am thinking leave the od off untill i am up to speed then engage it in cruising mode when its not working so hard. love the od off switch for passing on snow highways!
