Milage dropping?

I bought my Vibe GT back in Jan 03 and about a month ago I've been noticing that the milage appears to be dropping. When I fill up, I always used the same brand and grade of fuel, the Esso Supreme 91 octane. Everytime I fill up, I always reset the trip meter. Usually when the fuel gauge almost reaches to the halfway mark, the trip meter shows about 320km - 330km.In the last month, I've been just barely getting past 200km just before the halfway mark on my gauge.I haven't been driving any differently in distance or manner, nor have I been using the AC, so I can't account for the discrepancy. There aren't any engine lights going off either so the dealer told me that the gas gauge isn't accurate and only 'guestimates' the amount of fuel remaining. So has anyone else been noticing milage problems?

Have you checked your air filter lately? that might be the cause or be a contributer to the loss in gas milage.

I can check into that. I didnt' think it would be a problem already. I only have about 5200km on the car, and it's been raining here for most of the time I've owned my car so far

You know... it is wierd. I think that out computer compensates for too much crap, thus making the gas mileage totally funky. One tank will be sweet and the next will be totally mind boggling. Like what in the hell. I really would like to get 30 miles a gallon consistently. Whatever though, it beats my 15 miles a gallon Chevy Blazer I owned beforehand.-Slink

Maybe fuel filter? It was one of the things they replaced on mine when I complained of a loss of power & fuel economy.

You should calculate the actual economy, rather than the range to 1/2 tank reading. Maybe the gauge is just a little funky...

That does sound odd... What kind of numbers are you getting for fuel economy? I would definitely keep an eye on the numbers, and if they're too low, complain. If I'm doing the math right, my base/auto goes 240 km (150 mi) or less when it hits 1/2 tank. But since you've got an entirely different powertrain, this doesn't mean much. By nature, gas gauges are very inaccurate. But if you're not getting the numbers you think you should, then there is a problem.

After filling my tank tonight I noticed that I had 330 miles on the last tankfull, and I still had 1/8th of a tank left.I would've hit 400 miles if i had ran it empty but I try not to do that.So what I'm saying is that I also noticed my mileage going up with the warmer weather.

Well, I just pasted the half tank mark in mine and I don't even have 150 miles recorded. Whee. -Slink
