Our 1.8L base 5-speed Vibe has a nasty vibration / tinny resonance when passing through 2500-3000 RPM. Sounds like it's coming from the engine compartment, any common fixes for this problem? Don't suggest a header or muffler, 4-cylinders don't get mod money in this household

Loose heat shield on the exhaust perhaps?

Yeah, I was going to also say loose heat shield on the manifold. If you push down on the front of you hood and you hear it moving, that might also be the culprit. You may need to adjust the hood bumpers.

Good suggestions, thanks guys, I'll check on those items and other loose pieces in the engine bay later this week.

yes i concur dr. CP and BC. The vibe needs 10oz of rattle check asap hahhaha yeah just sounds like something (nut/bolt) is loose in the engine bay. What if you had it parked and rev'ed in neutral, does it still do it? then you can have someone search the engine bay for it.no mod money for 4cylinders? what if its turbo'd

Meh, we looked at turbo 4-bangers but I just don't get the point. The whole point of a small engine is fuel economy, if I want to go fast and burn gas I"ll jump in the super-6 or V8 cars. I think the gearing is mostly to blame, to make up for the lack of low end torque.

? I get 35 mpg on hwy and so does the supercharged and turbo cobalt. I have lots of low end torq with this 2.3l though.. its all about how you drive Theres nothing like getting 35mpg on hwy then roasting a v8

I'm not in the business of driving slowly on the highway, all the 'high performance' hatch backs and compacts I've driven are geared so high (RSX-S, for example) that they get about the same highway mileage as my GTP. Not worth it. Nice to hear about your car though, keep up the good work! Everybody loves a sleeper

Find a solution to this issue? I get this noise every so often when I really get into it. It sounds like it is coming from inside the dash, under the radio, behind the shifter column, but down farther.

Do some searching for that one, in searching for help on my engine bay problem I've seen plenty of people with write-ups to fix interior / dash noises.

My daily driver is a 1997 GTP that I've had for 6 years. Heads, cam, ported/polished/powdercoated everything, full suspension.The Vibe is my wife's daily. We have a '98 LS1/T56 swapped Camaro to beat on in the summerThere's also a 1970 Buick GS for the weekends

ah yeah very nice. My friend has a GTP he was dragging, but even built up some it was making like 11s 1/4 miles so he got a 5.0 80's stang...

No I wouldn't, modding 4-cylinders just isn't my game. I've got more than enough toys already
