I've been looking at some Mitsubishi Lancer's (the 2008 or 2009) and was just wondering if anyone else had one? If not can anyone tell me whether they've heard good or bad things? And again, same questions, but with 2004/2005 Mazda RX-8.

if you want cargo space or trunk space, they don't have much. I wasn't impressed when I took a look, so went back to the hatch style car.

My friend has a 06 Ralliart. Beautiful car, lots of low-end torque. Very fast for a 4 cylinder. I think they are amazing cars. The new ones look sooo nice too.

My friends wife bought a new outlander? it has the mitsu lancer engine. Is suppose to be reliable but I dislike the lancer, only thing the evo is worth looking at but on the road tour this past fall the evoX sucked bad...rx-8 is a great car they all got the engine replaced back some years ago so there shouldnt be anymore engine issues. Only thing I dislike about them is the worthless back seat. Otherwise a good buy.

I wanted a RX-8 but heard the engines sucked and have basically no mods available as far as power goes.

They are running into some tranny issues from what I hear from the Evo boys/gals on the X. The RX8 is nice looking but that's about it too. may as well get a miata, because that's about the performance you will get from it, plus RWD. There is a reason why they make both STI and Evo X in AWD (not to mention even the Nissan GTR) to handle power, low end, etc.Not too many cars really impress me anymore (especially when it comes to low end power/tq). I doubt I'll ever own another non-AWD/4WD vehicle. if you are just looking for something with more low end power that can still get up and go, haul things/people, I would certainly steer you to either the base Subaru Impreza or Legacy models (I'm partial to the Legacy body style... it's quite nice and can be had pretty reasonable). Pretty zippy imo, even without the turbo version. If you want FWD and some zoom zoom, then go Mazdaspeed 3 all the way! for the price and what you get, it's REALLY hard to beat! cargo space (not as much as the Vibe though), but a fun little car if you don't mind the FWD and turbo.

ms3 is awesome! :D yeah depends on your needs. fwd, rwd, awd and what you want for space etc.My car with snow tires has been a beast in the winter...im loving it :D

Listen, I would test drive both models. See which one is more fun to drive.

I just saw a tuner mag today and the only mod the RX-8 in it had was a tune, a drop in filter, and synthetic fluids! I would think you would need a lot more than that to get in a tuner mag!

I would think you would need a lot more than that to get in a tuner mag!I'm pretty sure k&n makes a SRI, but with only 6.something HP.So I took out a 2005 automatic RX-8 today and hole-E crap. Love at first site. Then I drove it and to be honest, if it was legal to marry a car I would have proposed as soon as I got out.The look is very nice. It was a jet black colour, which is my favourite colour on a car. The bucket seats are very comfortable, and the heated leather seats are a plus in my town. It just looked plain bad *** and I loved it. The suicide doors are really cool because as a coupe it's a pain to fold the seats down to get people in the back.Performance wise I loved it. It had triptronic (with paddle shifters) in it which is always fun if you're rockin an auto tranny. It does not have a lot of low end power, however once it hits about 20-30 km/h it really picks up. And it's not a jolt, it's very smooth. I think I got up to about 90km/h in 1st gear. High end speeds are amazing. It's passing and accelerating is funomenal! Handling was impecable, and the turning radius was extremely tight. The only negative thing I have to say about this car is the automatic shifter...putting it from drive to reverse is tough, and sort of poorly designed I'd say. Also the triptronic is the reverse of every car I've ever been in. All cars I've driven downshift towards you and upshift away, but the RX-8 is, like i said, the opposite. So now I know what it's like, and have to find a sick deal like the one I found here, but in manual. And if anybody can give me any input on their experiences with RX-8 let me know! I took the Lancer out of the picture lol

I would like to add, another benefit of the RX-8 I like is the availability for mods. There aren't a whole lot of engine mods, but there are quite a few exterior ones from what I can see.

I was autox'ing last summer and one instructor just bought a rx-8 for their new autox car. Its a great car, everyone ive talked to likes them that owns them. If you can Consumer reports says the 2006 is the more reliable year. most likely due to the engine replacement

I just don't have the cash at this point I found a better deal that is standard and has the orangish/brown seats. I'm going to go check it out tomorrow! The girlfriend didnt seem interested in checking it out with me today, so I'm goin with a buddy tomorrow.

Checked out the one I was talking about going to today. Very nice! It's the GT version so it has a rear spoiler with all options minus the nav system, as well as the two tone seats. It is also a 6 speed. It red lines at 9000rpm!! That's insane! The tach goes to 10,000... it's also cool that they kept the buzzer from the RX-7 so it let's you know to shift.I also learned how to drive stick today. I tried twice before, but this was the first time it was not in a parking lot and didn't only last 5 minutes. Didn't stall or make it jump! (Note: I didn't test the RX-8 out today, as I learned stick after I checked it out. Plus you need to fill out the bill of sale before you can test drive it )

Yeah I took some today actually! I like how it is basically a coupe, but because it has the suicide doors, you can tell the insurance companies it's a 4 door. Here's some pictures from the seller, I'll put the ones I took up tomorrow if I'm not too hung over from New Years...:(it's actually black, the first pic just has glare)

Here's some pictures I took. I mainly took pictures of any dings, so here's the only ones that aren't scratches and such:Let me know what you think!!Drivers side front.Suicide doors.Drivers seat. And here's a blue 2005. I don't know how I feel about it. I kind of like the colour, but I dunno...it's higher mileage, higher price, and not a GT, so I'm more inclined to the black one. I think the blue one would look really nice with the Seibon CF hood that is below...but then again, so would the black.

IMO.. that hood should be tossed in the trash... but thats just me.

Theres a greddy turbo kit, over 300hp :D I love the look of that RX-8 blue does look better as it pops (colorwise) but having a GT and cheaper is definitely a plus.... Black is nice too and if you got a CF hood it wouldnt stick out as much.

Yeah I'm semi-disappointed that it's not the reverse colours (cheaper one blue instead)...however my favourite colour on a car is black and I really do like the colour scheme on the black one (black and orangish brown). I'd want to do what this guy did and paint the engine covers to match the interior:The decision on buying this or not will probably come this weekend. The only reason it won't happen could be because of the poor performance in the winter...I think with a good set of snows I should be fine though. The ride height will be a challenge either way I love this car lol, I don't know why, but it's all I can think and talk about lately I think if my girlfriend hears me say 'RX-8' one more time she will rip my nuts off.

I like the large amount of exterior mods available, like kits, hoods, spoilers, and even trunks. And there are lots of different turbos and S/C for the rx-8, but i think greddy is the most popular/best.

So update on this thread: RX-8 has been shut down by my dad...he said if I get it I have to pay for insurance...which will be something like CDN $4000.00 a year :SSo just for the hell of it, my buddy and I test drove a few cars tonight. We were trying to see how many we can pull off in 2.5 hours. Between 6:30pm and 9pm we drove 3 cars and looked at 1. I drove Mitsubishi Lancer GT, Pontiac G6 GXP, and a Saab 93 (which is a 2.0 turbo...OH MY GOD, freakin unreal! I'm going back tomorrow for another run!!! My dad has an Infiniti G37 S, and this thing would definitely keep up with the 350hp the G pushes out). We also stopped in at Dodge after calling to set up a test drive for a black Charger SRT8. Shook the dudes hand and first thing he asked me was my age...what a dink. We went out and he had it running for me and he pulled it out so I could take some pictures. It was slipping and skidding as he was moving it out, and he said it wasn't a good idea to take out. I think if he really thought it was a bad idea he wouldn't have started it...I may be 18, but I'm not going to crash the damn thing. I guess he doesn't know me though, so I can understand he wouldn't trust me with a 6.0L w/ a hemi btw was rollin on 20's. Sick.

if you're only 18 and you dont' have your dad with you, no way in hell anyone in their right mind would let you drive anything with a great amount of power. now, show them the money, and well, that's different. I always found it fun to go test driving, especially when I walk into a dealership, they assume I'm about 18 (benefits of being Asian I suppose) and drill me on this or that. when they realize that I know more about the car then they do, and say I want to drive it, they usually give me some hurdle such as "you have to qualify for the car before you can test drive." They did this to me a couple years ago when I test drove the Evo IX MR. I told them fine, hope I make enough. LOL When I handed him my paystub (after making about $9K that month) he shut up and handed me the keys. Very impressive car, but we still ended up buying 2 STI's instead.
