Hello Everyone,I am a proud owner of a 2009 Vibe FWD 1.8L Auto. I chose this car for relaibility as I've researched on the internet and this excellent forum.I have a one important concern. Will Dexcool ruin my engine? This is the factory recommended coolant and will void your warranty if you replace it with the green coolant. I've read horror stories about this coolant. Have they redesigned the gaskets to be more compatible with Dexcool? I read that air oxidizes Dexcool and and that it breaks it down. But you probably cannot prevent air from contaminating it since the coolant system (reservoir) is not vacuum sealed.I don't want my engine ruin after the warranty expires (and the warranty excludes most parts of the cooling system to begin with)Any advise is most helpful. Thanks.absolute0

welcome to genvibe!to answer your question about the dexcool. my auto teacher at school said it will only ruin your engine if u never change it. he also said that its recommended that u change it every 75,000 miles

Dexcool works very well as long as nothing goes wrong. Personally I have taken apart some engines that had bad sludging from Dexcool, since nothing stays sealed for ever. I flush my engines out and run the green stuff or Prestone replacement yellow fluid, then change it every two years.

Congrats on the New Vibe and Welcome. I would stick with the Toyota antifreeze and not even consider anything else.

I too am a new owner of a beautiful AWD Vibe as of two days ago & did it ever get thru the snow storm we had! I thought I would like this site, but it is terribly outdated - why is that?

I understand that the Toyota coolant's better, but my Vibe's brand new. If I flush it right away to replace it with Toyota red, won't that void my warranty when I bring it in for servicing? Thanks.

Chuck, Welcome.Ann, I have enjoyed this FREE site and my 2004 Vibe and appreciate all the VOLUNTEER hours that go into it. It seems like 2009 drivers want new info. but I wonder are they helping add 2009 info to the site?

Your 09 Vibe comes from the factory with Toyota red antifreeze all ready in the cooling system. You should be good for at least 30K miles.

***********Your 09 Vibe comes from the factory with Toyota red antifreeze all ready in the cooling system. You should be good for at least 30K miles.***********Hi 03vibedriver,But if it came with Toyota Red (how are you sure about this?), is it compatible with Dexcool, bec. the manual says to top up, use Dexcool, and I've read mixing Dexcool with anything else (especially the green ethylene glycol) will sludge it up, thereby voiding your warranty... any thoughts...Also, I've just ordered a scangaugeII, an ELM5USB scanner interface and ScanXL... I will post more info (at least for the Vibe engine performance) when I get the time to use the gadgets...Thanks.absolute0
