I know I don't post a lot on this board but I was wanting everyones opinion. Last Thursday I purchased a 2003 Eclipse, my wife got the Vibe so I get a sportscar. Anyways I got it home and noticed several hail dents that I did not see at the dealership. I took the car back up and they agreed to fix it tomorrow if I leave it for half a day.Do you guys think I should try to get them to throw in something for my trouble? They did sell me a new car that was damaged. What would you guys do?

Well, you might want to get some free oil changes for your trouble or something like that. I wouldn't count on getting too much. They could have been jerks about the damage and said it happened after they sold it to you and then tried to charge you for it. I would see what they will give you though. Good luck.

AtWorks' story reminds me of one told by my university law professor:Back in the day when the original VW Beetles came out, a certain individual ordered one from the VW dealer, with a certain set of options that made it a "custom" order. The expected delay was X weeks.Well, X weeks passed, and they phoned the dealer to find out where the Beetle was. "Shipping delays," was the reply. Finally, a couple weeks later, the car was ready to be picked up. After driving the car for a few days, funny rattling noises were noticed, and the car was returned to the dealer to remedy the problem. Several trips later regarding the rattles, one of the techs remarked to the new VW owner that they were lucky they had the car at all, it should have been totalled-off.?????Turns out, the car was taken for a bit of a "joy-ride" by somone at the dealership when it came in. The VW was in a serious accident, and should have been totalled-off, but because it was a new vehicle that had been special-ordered, they repaired it & sold it as new (which is misrepresentation, the reason why the story came up in the law class). The moral of the story is, "new" means "not damaged." We hope that all dealers aren't as shady as this VW dealer (who coincidentally went out of business).

okay before i get myself in trouble... that was a joke, i didnt mean to be rude.its just that mitsubishi hasnt made a true "sports car" in a while the last generations of eclipses have been way to heavy and underpowered to be labeled as a performance driving machine. they do look nice though.

well...from my experience of watching Judge Judy and The Peoples Court, the dealership would be responsible because they are the ones caring for the car. thats my opinion.

I would have told them to return the car and give you a new one. Trust me, I did with a Saturn, and I would do it again.

What would you guys do?About the same thing happened to me when I got my Vibe, there was a long scratch (12 to 16 inches) similar to a “keying†along my passenger door, that I missed cause it was so sunny that day. I didn’t get greedy, they didn’t give me any hassle and fixed it, especially cause the car was “mine now!â€
