Surprising drop in miles driven

For some reason I was looking at our miles driven in 2008. Typically we would put a total of 12,000 miles a year on 2 cars. 2008 year to date it is only 6,100 for both cars and that includes two 1,250 mile round trips to NC. In 2007 there might have been three trips to NC. While I made some attempt to reduces miles driven in 2008 due to the fact that gasoline was expensive I really don't understand how I accomplished what will be a 45% reduction. I work out of my home but that has been the case for years.

I too had a significant drop in miles driven in 2008 esp. over 2007.Less long distance trips taken and a relocation of the branch i work at that shortened the comute. and combined errands to single trips.made a pretty big impact.I'll post again later with some of the data from my spreadsheet.

Wow, this got me thinking. In 2007 between 2 cars, my wife and I put on an astounding 44,000 miles. So far in 2008, a whopping 9,500. That is 21% of the previous year.We registered my wife's old care in January 2008, and sold it in August 2008. During those 8 months, we managed to put on a whopping 1,100 miles. Now with the price of gas dropping, I've noticed we have started driving more.
