O2 sensor linked with ECU replacement?

I had a CEL a month or so ago. Took it into the dealer and they determined it was an O2 sensor. They replaced it. Couple days later, the CEL came on again. They said that it was a history code that did not get deleted the previous time. Sounded odd to me, but of well. He had also mentioned the there was a service bulletin stating that when the O2 sensor gets replaced, the at times they may have to swap out the ECU. He said this only occurs when the O2 sensor is replaced with the supposed new model that they put in mine. Has anyone ever heard of this before? I have read some other threads that the MAF may need to be cleaned. Should I try that before taking it back into them and dealing with getting a ECU swap? By the way, this is all under the extended warranty so it's not costing me any more than the $25 deductible that I initially paid.

Sounds like a load of hooeey. You don't change an ECU because of an O2 sensor. What CEL code did you get?

I'm not sure. I had just took it into the since it was still under warranty. I think it was 0330 or something like that. Not sure what the letter was though.

The ECU is the electronic control module, yes? The computer? They should not need to replace that. They're just looking for business.

that's what I thought too, but they aren't getting the money from me is the thing. I guess they have to get the money from somewhere and in this case it would be the extended warranty company. So should I try cleaning the MAF before I do anything else then?

Get the code read at Autozone etc., they do it for free. PO330 is a knock sensor so that's not it. It should be between PO130 and PO167 for an O2 issue.

Wolfman they should not take a dime from you. ALL emissions parts are warrantied for 7/70...labor too. Federal law!.I had the spark plug wires and CAT go bad on my ASTRO w/45k...no charge. If you are not over 70k...Go get your $25 back. ANd if they want to replave the ECU. They have to do that for free. DAMN, it's good to know the law.
