Got an '05 GT

So, we finally got an '05 GT, Abyss Black...not my first choice in color (too high maintainence) but it's only got 36k on it, and came GM certified with some good warranty! Anything I NEED to be looking at, or changing/fixing to start out? I've already found the cabin filter (it was prett dirty) and swapped it out (we got some allergy issues in the family...me included!), and got some good wipers on...anything else? Thanks!

Hi, & welcome to the forum! Good choice on the GT, you'll like it. Mine's an 03 and I couldn't be happier with it. You'll hear a lot about the crummy stock clutch that they are equipped with, although I haven't had any issues with mine and I'm at 65k miles so far (knocking on wood). Not something you can really check though, just keep an eye on it. The paint is sort of lousy as well and can chip easily but again, not something that you can really prevent. Otherwise, in 20k miles of ownership I've not had a single issue that wasn't routine maintenence. This is easily the most reliable car i've ever owned.

Well, it's got a charcol looking interior, cloth, Moon and Tunes, the power package, and it's been all tarted up by the original dealer..."sport package?" body kit with the front valence and rear valence extensions, rocker extensions, and the two wings on the rear hatch......not my choice, but it's there....I prefer to be a little lower profile...the wheels are stock 16's with tire pressure monitors....and I had two bad valve stems within the first week of ownership....dealer covering the repairs. The car is actually pretty clean. The dealer did a pretty good job of presale prep. Matter of fact, I've tried to air it out some from the chemical/cleaner smell...my 5 year old has a ton of allergies. I'm currently in the process of swapping over my old radio, with Bluetooth and Sirius, into the Vibe...I miss the Bluetooth, and can't shift and answer the phone at the same time! The radio came out of the Cherokee without a hitch, although I think Circuit City cut a factory connector out of the Cherokee...no power to the stock radio...I've got to splice in the factory connector I got from Crutchfield before I start taking the Vibe dash apart....

Welcome to GV and the begining of a love hate relationship with the color black, absolutely spectacular when clean and then 15 seconds later its dirty. Sounds like you have all of the factory body add-ons. I still get amazed at the amount of GT's with only the 16's Around here, there are a couple Blue hairs driving Base models with 17's kinda funny. Good luck with the new car, shouldn't need too much tho, as these are very reliable units.

I've got a 2003 GT - black as well - and at 120,000 miles I'm still on my original clutch and battery. Folks are right, the paint chips easily. Also, I'm not sure if this applies to the 2005s, but there was a recall for the front driver and passenger side window attachment bolts.I've got 17 inch wheels. Peformance is great, but if you ever need snow chains on your Vibe, you are better off witht he 16 inch wheels.

You should replace the "lift" bolts that have a tendency to shear after some miles. It is way easier to replace the bolts before they shear. If one of the bolts shear, it is a lot more work to remove the broken bolt. If you search on this website, there is a write-up on how to replace the bolts.
