Hey, I wanna customize my taillights, by tinting them a little. I think it looks sick on some cars like jettas, and what have you. How do you do it? Do you have the taillights special, or can you do it at home???Thanks a milli

I've seen them on a Vibe before, but I can't remember where it was...they did look really good though, I've been contemplating it for a while. I think I'm going to do it in the Spring.

Nightshades comes out with a matte finish usually. If you want them shiny some rubbing compound and clear coat is needed. I've done it a couple times with some VWs I've owned.Procedure (abridged from the VWvortex.com forums):-- Remove taillight and wet sand smooth.-- Apply a THIN coat of Nightshades, let dry.-- Repeat thin applications to ensure even coverage until desired level of tint is achieved.-- (Optional) use fine rubbing compound to smooth.-- Apply layer(s) of clear coat to shine (rubbing compound again if desired)-- Reinstall

Update:Bought some tail light tint today for $30. It was the last bottle and the place I got it from said it was illegal to import into Canada because the chemicals in it are not supposed to brought over. Apparently they pretty much had to sneak it across the border. However, the guy at the shop said he's never heard of any problems with the police pulling people over because of tinted tailights. Can't wait for the spring to do this! I'll probably tint them when I do my angel eyes

I'm not familiar with "%'s" and I'm pretty sure you can't measure your tail light that way either I was just thinking dark enough to make it kind of blend in with the car, but at the same time letting enough light through for braking and what not. Maybe 2-3? layers?Quote, originally posted by rareorange1 »Where did you pick it up? Picked it up at a place in Kanata, ON. I believe it's just the one location that they have that shop.

Which Vibe do you have (model year)? My company made both the earlier models and the latest model. I can probably give you some tips but if you wanted it done right without violating the heat plate seal, you would probably have to do it prior to the heat plate process. Only could be done in the factory.- Jim
