Engine limited during warm-up?

Horrible topic name, but I can't think of anything else to put it as.When I first start the Vibe, I go right away and don't wait for it to warm up. Yes i know this isn't great for it, but it's what I do. Anyways, It seems like until the engine gets either warmed-up or and a certain period of time, I am only able to hit maybe 3K on the tach. Even if I punch it to pass, it seems to stop and 3K and will shift to OD very early if that's what it has to do. Then, at some point-in-time, haven't observed it enough yet to determine when, it's fine like nothing has every happened and my whole RPM band is available to me. Is this a common thing or like a safety feature to protect the drivetrain or something? It's an 06 Base w 85K no performance or electrical mods.

yes it's designed to do that. To warm up the car faster and the fluids faster. You shouldn't"punch" past it. Thats only going to cause more issues. It actually holds third gear a bit longer before it warms up enough to drop in to OD.

Good! Nice to know nothing is screwed up and nothing will screw up! Guess they had that in mind for people just like me with no patience to wait for the car to warm up properly lol

its strongly recommended for the life of the engine, to allow it to warm up before trying to get the rpm past 3000. Thats why in the winter I let my car idle a couple mins before driving.

Yeah, I've always been bad about that in every car that I've had. If i wasn't such a procastinator and leave at the last minute, I wouldn't have a prob at all letting it warm up. One of these days.... One of these days...

Safety Measure to prevent engine issues. Same goes for owners of the 1st Gen Gt's; the engine will not go into lift until the engine reaches a certain temp.
