i recently bought, what i think is a pretty good stereo setup. having never messed with stereo stuff before, i have been messing with the decks equalizer. i need some help fine tuning. anyone know a website or a place that explains all the terms and so on? i went to the kenwood site(my deck is kenwood), but couldnt really find much. it sounds good now, but i wanna get it just right. any ideas or help?

What term to you want to be explained?

it maybe just the decks own categories and sub categories and not actual terms, i dont dont know. theres the usual bass, mids, treble and balance/fader. each of those have 3 or 4 adjustable option under that. each of these fall under each of the bass, mids, treble and balance/fade menu.center freq, level, q factor, extend. then, there is also high and low filter, loudness, non fading and vol offset adjustable functions. HELP!!!

which ones dont i need to mess with? whats the best way to adjust? please dont say by ear

Did you get a manual? What is your deck's make and model?A lot of that stuff sounds pretty superfluous to me.Never need any of that with the 8 track in our 67 chevy.

its a kenwood KDC-X769, yes i have the manual, but all that it really tells is where the function is located on the menu.

I have an Alpine I put in my Van .... the manual for the radio is thicker then the Van owner's manual! I want to get started with upgrading the audio in the Vibe, but I don't have time to tweek around with everything.

Can you adjust sound buy frequencies level like 40, 80 or 125hz for bass?

my manual is very basic, the website didnt seem to have anything, unless i couldnt find it

nope, not to my findings...

Sounds come in frequency and volume. The lower the frequency number, the lower the sounds' pitch.An equalizer lets you control the level (volume) at which seperate frequency ranges play through your speakers. Want more bass? raise the low frequency setting. Want more highs? raise the higher freqency settings. Often the only need to set an equalizer is to compensate for a poor speaker setup. The Vibe's stock six-speaker array doesn't handle very loow freqencies well. Thus I've adjusted the bass output from the CD player DOWN a little, so the speakers don't distort trying to play those low sounds.If you have a professional full-range speaker array installed in your car, and all speaker levels are balanced, then you would probably get the most accurate play from a CD by leaving the equalizer graph level.For home audio configurations, most installers use a special CD and a sound meter. The CD emits "white noise", at a known level, and cycles it to each speaker one at a time. Using the sound meter they set each speaker's output to be the same at the listener's location. The CD then can play a tone in each sound range, and each speaker's ability to handle that pitch can be evaluated and adjusted using an equalizer.If you really want to "tune" you car audio system then I suggest searching for a test CD, and reading up on sound system configuration.
