Strange sound during lift

I recently had my GT's engine rebuilt. The shop and I are still trying to iron out a few kinks. One issue I'm having is asort of high pitched metalic ringing/whistle type sound during lift only. (Bearings??) It is loud enough to be heard over the engine. Any one have any input on where to look for a cause. I don't think that it is a belt slipping. All the belts look good. One mechanic thought it might be from oxidation on the pulleys and that it would subside. after a few hundred miles it hasn't. Anything input appreciated.

Post a clip of the noise if you can and then we can continue from there.

No problem. I do hope they rebuilt the head and made sure everything was to spec. If the noise is only when you hit lift, indications would be it is coming from the valve train area or head.

You know... I bet they didn't rebuild the head. It took them several attempts to get this far before the even knew about the lift function. I ignorantly assumed that they would do their homework on this engine. I'll be on the phone about that tomorrow. Thanks

For what reasons, I do not know, but I would have to guess due to a internal failure; maybe a spun bearing or a oil pump going out. If the oil pump went out on you, that means no oil was getting to those valves for how long?

I had an issue with a spun crank berring and also had my GTs motor rebuilt at a non toyota/Pontiac shop. Im not gonna go into specifics as to what or why or how it spun cuz I just make myself sick with rage, but I have to say the dude must have done his homework cuz its been 30k mi since the rebuild and mine is still running strong. I have even recently decided to start seriously tunning it. As for your car, There are several(9)different berring combinations for our engines crank as well as many other techno goodies, if they have not researched the engine there could be a whole host of things wrong with the rebuild they did. I never experianced any such noises with mine after rebuild was done. Stop driving it if u can and try to get a "real tech" to take a look at it before u damage it (again) I feel for u, I really do.

Well, he had the problem ten months ago, and the last time he posted was back in May when he said he was going to sell it, so he's probably stopped driving it by now, one way or another
