Windshield Replacement

Just my luck, driving home from work today and some massive rock flies out of a dump truck and nails the windshield, pretty much shattering it. Kind of late in the day to get a quote, but I shattered the windshield on my 2003 Vibe and it cost around $350. I'm guessing it'll be a bit more on the 2009 GT. Any thoughts?

With a $500 deductible it's not worth it. A new one cost $270. I had this happen on my 2003 Vibe and my insurance told me it's not even worth making a claim. As far as glass coverage, I have no clue. I will check right away though, thanks.

my windshield got hit by a rock while driving on the fwy today too hit the passenger side near the pillar and the crack was about 5-6 inches long. i was driving with my a/c on when it happened and after i parked and went shopping and came out, the crack grew about 2 inches then by the time i got home the crack was over a foot long yikes! well i got a quote for $314 to replace the windshield. they said they use factory glass so with tax and everything it's about $333. on my previous car it only cost $170 but used aftermarket glass.

0 deductible full glass coverage on insurance is a wonderful thing.Your windshields are cheap! A Matrix windshield goes for $500-700 installed depending if you want the tinted strip up top or not.

Jeffrey, Thanks for the windshield link to the auto glass guru. I had an oak branch smash into my parked windshield today. I am shopping around and I went to the link and got this quote:"You can order the following glass replacement online and schedule it in minutes.Description: Green Tint (other glass types may be higher)Estimated Parts: $163.06Estimated Labor: $75.00 Taxes: $0.00TOTAL PRICE INCLUDING LIFETIME WARRANTY: $238.06* May require a new molding for an additional $46.88" I doubt my insurance covers it so this sounds like a good price to me. I called my insurance company anyway and they made an appt. for me with Safelite mobile unit for about the same price. I find out on Monday how much of it I will have to pay myself. Thanks, BlueRidge

Update on a happy ending:Safelite mobile unit came to my office parking lot at 9am on Monday, Aug. 24th (the morning after I called) and replaced my windshield in less than 2 hours. It had to sit for a few hours while the adhesive set up and I had to leave the side windows slightly cracked during that time. The guy was very professional and best of all my insurance DID cover most of it so I only paid the $100 deductible. I was very pleased and I've had no trouble since then.

Seriously look into the 0 deductible glass coverage on your insurance. The cost is minimal for the policy addition but it's so worth it.

The site seems legit enough, at least for the quote part. $227.83 to replace the windshield in the Sunfire using a Portland zip number which is about right!
