Cancelled Warranty

I recently cancelled my 7 year/70,000 mile warranty on my 2008 Vibe.I just started thinking that for $1880 (including tax) that it really wasn't worth it.I drive low miles every year so I would probably reach the 7 years before the 70,000 miles, but Vibes are good cars and being a toyota engine and all...plus I have manuel doors and windows and with the 5 year powertrain warranty, its just not worth it for 2 extra years.Any thoughts?

I was only making payments .So far I have paid $659 into it.They charge a $50 cancellation fee and then prorate it I think it comes out to about $20 bucks a month,so I am hoping to get back about $500. Yhey said it could take up to 3 weeks max to receive the refund.

hmmm, it's making me think too, these cars are reliable, how late can you still get the extended warranty money back? I bought an 09 with 7 year warranty just over a month ago? do i have up until the end of 3 years where the full coverage waranty ends to cancel it?

You can cancel it at any time.It is actually prorated from the time you buy it so you are actually paying for another warranty while you are still under manufacturers warranty.Since I have manuel doors and windows, there aren't really alot of parts that could go wrong in the first seven years, and also I only drive 8-9ooo miles a year.If you cancel it within the first 60 days(I think it is 60 but could be 30) you don't have to pay a 50.00 administation fee. Also I bought my warranty seperate from the car purchase, and they charged me sales tax, which the dealer refunded right away when I cancelled it.But I wonder,if I wouldn't have cancelled it,would they ever have noticed that I was overcharged? Probably not...Anyway, my warranty was 1750 plus 135 in sales tax,and I cancelled after 5 months, and also I was making payments. After paying $659 in payments and the down payment,GMPP refunded 376 and the stealership 135 for a total of 511. So after taking off the $50 admin fee,I was paying $19 a month for nothing.

A dealer can goodwill repairs up to 5 years and 60,000 miles. We do it all the time. But only for customers that do all their service with us. Extended warranties are a waste really.

I have never spent over $1000 on repairs for any new car that i have purchased (eight total), each with 70-120K miles. Extended warrantees are guaranteed profits for the seller. Not buying a warranty is like casino gambling, and you ar the casino. You might loose big, but the odds are heavily in your favor.
