Intercooler

I saw a really nice golf at school the other day with a sick intercooler. I really liked the look of it and decided I want one. Has anyone else set up an intercooler on their Vibe, so that it would look something like this? (I like the look of the piping coming out on the sides)I've been told that and intercooler like that is only really needed for a car with a turbo in it (which I don't have), but other than getting ricer points for it does it do anything? I've seen in other places in the forum that people have used it as an intake or something along the lines of it, and put a cone off of an sri or cai in the intercooler and used as an intake. Also, I was wondering is if there is any benefit to getting an intercooler, what would the setup look like?I was thinking it would fit somehow into the holes that the arrows are pointing to belowAnyways, hope someone can help me, and hope someone has done this before! Thanks!

Haha, I'm all down for being a "baller on a budget" What about running piping down and using it as a giant CAI? Is it more beneficial than using a CAI?

an intercooler is strickly an air cooler not an air intake..... If you don't plan on turboing your car an intercooler is pointless! don't do it you will be the laughing stock everywhere you post you added an intercooler to your car with out turboing it.

Just so you know there are cold air intakes that are set up to look like an intercooler, and to me, would seem to work a hell of a lot better then almost any other CAI as it gets air directly from the front of the car, OUTSIDE of the engine compartment. However, without a turbo you would probably get some laughs from those who know.

Otherwise if you put on an intercooler without a turbo, I'll return to Ontario, visit my folks and come find you. We'll have words. lol Or come to alaska and I'll take you for a ride in a couple cars with functional intercoolers.but um...WHY?

Amtron: When air is compressed with a supercharger or turbocharger it becomes hot. The intercooler uses air passing through the fins to cool the now warm compressed air before it is delivered to the engine. This cooler air is more dense, and getting more air into the cylinder is what a turbo or supercharger is all about. Adding an intercooler will do nothing beneficial for your car.

Turbo creates a lot of pressure to force air through the intercooler. Intercooler creates good amount of pressure drop. Trying to suck air through it is going to suffocate your engine. Then there is the cost. Intercooler and piping will cost you few hundred bucks, while a CAI will be less than 200. A CAI will produce much better gains. As already mentioned, an intercooler may cause HP loss or gain of 0. That's not money well spent. You're not the only one in the world who thought about it. There's a reason nobody uses that kind of setup on non turbo car.

Okay, so I think it's safe to say that if I want an intercooler that badly, I will have to get a turbo. At least now I have an excuse to get a turbo

These guys don't know what they're talking about. If you get an intercooler, your baller status will be GUARANTEED.
