I have not been a member here for very long, however shortly after becoming a member here I started to receive "pop ups". The "pop ups" come up on a grey window with plain text...usually asking me to watch someone strip or get off. It is always pornographic in nature. I usually just ignore it, cause whatever it doesn't usually bother me I am not a prude, but I don't need the computer screen to get stimulated. Anyway...I do spend a considerable amount of time on the net searching journal material as I am working on my Master's Degree but I only receive the "pop ups" while I am on the Vibe Forum. My question is...does anyone else get the "pop ups" and could it be from a member here?

You may also want to look into browser alternatives that block pop-ups. I've been using a freeware IE add-on called Avant Browser http://www.avantbrowser.com/. It has a pop-up blocker that you can toggle on and off with the click of a button, which is handy when you want to have an IM session with a fellow GenViber (the IM box is interpreted as a pop-up window and therefore blocked from appearing at all). In addition, it has a great MDI functions (many pages appearing as tabs in a single Avant window rather than having many windows open) and lots of other cool features. Although it is a bit of a resource hog, you can't beat the price. Hope that helps!

Mozilla is also a good browser out there that can automatically block all incoming popups. http://www.mozilla.orgI personally use Safari, before that Mozilla and Chimera (now known as Camino), yes I am also a Mac user (w00t!), and using browser-integrated popup blocking, I have not seen an unrequested popup in well over a year - if not longer. Browsing is so nice now

If you are using window's XP ir NT or 2000, you may be a victim of the exploited "messaging" feature. It was intended to let sysop managers send employees hooked into an office network messages like "The network server will be shut down in 5 minutes. Please save all you work now."If you are NOT in an office using the offices computer, then you can disable this "feature". Tell me what operating system you are running and if it's XP I'll tell you how to turn it off.KSNeptune

Doesn't sound right. I have never had a "pop-up" on this forum and I'm running Win xp, 2000 and ME, with I.E. I'd try Rasermon's recommendation on deleting cookies if you haven't, and run AdAware. Keep us informed if it still does it or not.

This is the first I have heard of this. genvibe.com doesn't use pop up of any kind for advertising. Also we wouldn't allow porn advertising of any kind on this site in the first place. We do use the instant messaging system but that's different.Does this only happen on genvibe.com or on ever website you visit?

Only when I am on Genvibe. My partner is also on the net alot, never here, and has not had the same popups. It could be coincidence...you tell me.

Netscape also has built in pop up protect and it seems to work very well. Currently I'm using Safari on my PowerBook, but it seems to be a lot like Netscape. I actually think they are built on the same engine. I would turn on WinXP's firewall since it will prevent spam messages from Window's Messenger, or at least in my experience.

Corrupt cookies Very interesting indeed, but you are not alone. I noticed the same 'issue' on the forums as well. This was predominately worse when most of the forum images were being pulled in from zeroforum.com rather than genvibe.com's own server. This means, when zeroforum.com's server was experiencing slowness or difficulties, the forum would never completely load up the page and prevent IM's and other features from operating properly.I recently moved all forum images over to the genvibe server and personally have noticed much better performance, but not completely. For example, older posts that still reference zeroforum.com's server in their images may still experience slowness depending on their server's status. Serious, I do not even know what cookies are Cookies are small files that a web site can store on your computer, and then ask for later, and your browser will send it back. They are used to identify and track you. It is how GenVibe recognizes you when you come back, for example.

You might want to check in your profile and make sure your e-mail address is not being displayed on the site (in fact, a quick peek at your profile shows it is being displayed). You can turn this off in your My Profile section. There are crawlers out there searching for visible e-mail addresses on webpages and spamming them if found. If you do want people to be able to e-mail you, just sign up for a free web-based e-mail address. When I signed up, I just used an already spam laden Hotmail account.
