I have a 05 Vibe base with 16" tire/wheel. I'm thinking to install a hitch to expand its capability, i.e., renting a U-Haul trailer for a move. I pretty much figured out everything except the shank length of a hitch ball. For instance, under this linkhttp://
www.trailerhitches.com/...8.cfmthe Hidden Hitch Ball is available in serveral lengths with tiny price difference (compared to the price of a hitch). In what cases that I need a long/short hitch ball, i.e., the long/short one just won't work? Many thanks.

welcome to genvibe.I haven't done much towing with mine, but if you are thinking about buying a hidden hitch, the hidden hitch people will be able to tell you what length and dameter shank their hitch is looking for. There's also the question of ball diameter, which depends to some extent on what you plan to pull, the hidden hitch folks won't be able to tell you that one. I have both a 1 7/8 and 2 inch for my hitch, swap them as needed, although maybe one of the more hard core towers here can better explain ball diameter. But shank length and shank diameter should match the hole size ( for maximum pleasure )

I have a 1 1/4 inch reciever as the link showes. I use the standard set up that came with the hitch. The toung is 16 inches off the road when hooked up. Hope this helps
