Police and witnesses say the driver of a white Pontiac Vibe ran a red light.As the driver drove toward the victim, another child and a school crossing guard were able to jump out of the way.Adam Vokey was sitting in westbound traffic when the accident occurred. He said he saw the car back up after hitting the victim, then veer around the crowd that had gathered to help her.Crossing guard Uriah Harris hugged the second little girl after her friend was hit."What happened was awful," said Harris, who's been a crossing guard at Kew Beach elementary school for eight years. "I know them all, I see them every day." Alexander was taken to the Hospital for Sick Children with minor injuries.A citizen’s tip led police to the suspect car nearby on Hammersmith Ave., just east of the scene.
