I currently own a 09 Vibe with a stock stereo that I'm looking to upgrade. My current plan is to put a 4 channel amp under the passenger seat and hook it to some decent aftermarket coaxial speakers ($100-$150 range per pair). Then, in an effort to keep a stock appearance, I'm going to buy the subwoofer panel from GM ($125 with the sub). I'm wondering if anyone feels the sub (when properly powered) is comparable to a decent 8 or 10 inch Pioneer sub of about $150 value? Or, should I just buy an aftermarket sub and try to cram a box behind the enclosure? I don't want to shake the windows - I just want quality and punch.

I don't have an 09,but a few of my friends have the 09 Matrix.I would get an aftermarket sub for sound quality. Now,the stock enclosure idea is perfect for space saving and clean appearance.Another thing I noticed with the new Vibe/Matrix is the doors seem real thin,so I'd recommend using some sort of sound deadener to get the best out of your upgrades.

Thanks for the reply.I plan on getting the install done by a "professional". Can I just request that they sound proof the doors and it will be done, or are there many options for sound deadening products? Also, what's the ball park on cost for deadening the sound on all 4 doors?

Any one else have an opinion on the performance of the factory subwoofer in the 09 Vibe?

the factory speaker is ok... not the thumping window shaking sub like an aftermarket sub would be... if you are getting the factory sub... did you get the factory amp to run it?Deff get sound deadner. I just did my entire car. roof, doors, hatch, floor. The materials ran me about 300bucks for everything, matt
http://www.fatmat.com/bulk/rattletrap/100.html 100sf...you can get this on ebay cheaper than from that webpage, and Ensolite.
http://www.raamaudio.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi?p=prto do the entire car you will need about 12yards. Just recently i experimented with 1/4styofoam packing materal with the same results at the ensolite. it's 1/4 the cost and does the same thing. To have someone install the soundeadner you will need to understand whats involved. EVERYTHING must come out of the car. All the plastic trim peices, seats, carpet. You are gutting the car.To pay someone to do the install your looking at a two day job. Depending on their cost it could run 300-500bucks just for the install.I have an 06 with the monsoon sound system and factory amp. The sound deadner makes all the difference in the world. made the factory system sound fantastic.

I don't think the amp comes with the sub and enclosure, but I'll update when it arrives.I think I might try to tackle sound deadening the door and enclosure area myself. Obviously I'll need to do some research into that procedure, so I'll save you guys any newbie questions. Looks like a lot a fun though
