Can any one tell me if I can read a check engine service code number by doing something like making a dash light flash a number of times or to have the code number displayed on the small screen?I have the 2009 Vibe. I do not know much about the older models. Or, must you go the dealer or mechanic to find this information with a code scanner. FYI, my old 1988 Dodge Daytona can make the check engine light flash a certain way to give me the Code number. example: 5 flashes, pause, then 5 more flashes. means 55 which means there are no problem codes. 2 + 4 flashes will mean something is wrong. I have a list of codes definition's for the Daytona. Can the Vibe or any Toyota able to do for the owner, before having to go to the dealer?

The flashing code trick worked on pre1996 cars which were OBD1 and each make had a different reader.. From 1996 and up all cars are OBD2 and a single scanner can read codes from all makes. A lot of auto parts stores like Autozone will read the code for free. I have several vehicles so I bought my own code reader for about $100.00.

Invest in the Scan Gauge 2, it is well worth it.

Thanks for the information. I assumed it to be the case, but wanted to know from a long time Vibe owner.
