Color Code for Mary Kay Red Vibe

Hi. I'm new to the forum. I came here because I'm in a pickle and need some help. Here's my problem:I moved to Wisconsin from North Carolina about five weeks ago. I lived with a roommate who I got along very well with until the day I moved out. Two months before I moved out she let me borrow her 2007 Pontiac Vibe because my car was at the mechanic's to be repaired. Unfortunately, I accidentally backed into the neighbor's car across the street and scratched the paint. I showed my roommate the damage and she dismissed it saying he parks there all the time and not to worry about it. She even hugged my neck. So I didn't worry about it; in fact, I forgot about it. At the time it happened I offered to buy touch up paint for it and she was satisfied with that. Nothing was said until three weeks after I moved to Wisconsin. Now she wants me to replace the whole back panel of her car. I went to a dealership last week to buy the paint but they couldn't get it for me since it is a custom color that has to be specially mixed. I can't get the color code without the car's VIN number. Since the roommate and I are no longer on speaking terms I can't get the VIN number to get the paint! Can someone help me? Does anyone know where I can get the color code for the paint? Does anyone here have a Mary Kay Red Vibe that can lend me the VIN number so I can get the paint? I would be extremely grateful to anyone who can help me out.Thanks.Bev.

If you know anyone else who lives in the same town as your old roommate, they could stop by and read the VIN off the car (it's in the bottom right corner of the windshield when looking at the car).Furthermore, I had always thought that the color was not custom. Rather, I always thought it looked like the Lava color (bright red) with Mary Kay badges. If it is indeed just bright red, and you need the color, you might give it a try...Check here: http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=19784But you need to know the year of the car too.

I would say it's just the standard Lava color. To be honest,I wouldn't send her anything, since she agreed to just the touch-up paint.I wouldn't be replacing her back panel. Can she really do anything 3 weeks after the fact, and you live in another state now. Here in Ontario, the Police can't really do much under the $1000 mark. That's just me though.

I agree; I would send her the paint she agreed to and nothing more, if there is no friendship that needs to be saved/is worth being saved. I am also fairly sure that the color is "Lava," which was discontinued after the first couple of model years, I believe. That could be why the dealer is telling you it is "custom." I don't think it was a special color, just Lava red with a Mary Kay badge.

ya, pretty sure it's lava. and i'm sure it can be buffed out if it's not too deep of a scratch.

You offered, your roomate refused. Done deal.Almost 3 months later and now she wants a new back panel? Here's my train of thought. She backed into something/someone hit her/more damage occurred and now wants you to pay for it.

Hello All.Thanks for the replies. They really help. It's a 2007 Vibe and it seems like the general consensus here is that the color is Lava Red. Since she keeps the car in the garage I don't thinks it's going to be possible to have someone get the number for me so I'm going to go with the consensus on this and just order a bottle of the lava red. I've been told I would be a fool to send her anything at all after the way she has treated me since I moved out, but I'm good to my word; I did scratch the paint and I will take responsibility for that and nothing more. Thanks for all your help. I really appreciate it.Bev

If no, the heck with her...

It's good for own sense of personal integrity to do what you think is right even when you don't have to , so However, unless she already knows how to contact you, you might want to send it without a return address (I also think it's lava)

Not too many people now a days will honor their word. send her some lava red touch up paint and maybe a little bottle of rubbing compound so she can buff that scratch out. LOL.

I think the touch up paint is about $6-7 (or at least it was when I bought mine) so it'll be a pretty cheap way to keep your word.I think Mother's makes some kind of touchup kit that includes a clear coat and something that thins the paint a little so it smooths out and completely covers the scratch without it being obvious you've touched it up.

I've seen some Mary Kay Vibes that were actually the other red. I believe it's called Salsa.

Hmm...I've never seen a Salsa Mary Kay Vibe. Question for the original poster to make sure of the color: Was it metallic or not? (I don't think Lava is metallic, but Salsa is...someone else please correct if I am wrong.)

I believe Lava is brighter than Salsa. I could be wrong, but the one in my sig is Lava, and here are Salsas:http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=26472They're both red, but like Kari said, Salsa is more metallic and Lava is more of a flat red. I'll see if I can find the pic of the Mary Kay Vibe I saw in MI last weekend.Edit: Does anyone know if the paint codes changed from 03-08? They're seems to be more than just two reds but it could very well be just the different photos.

There were only two reds from 03-08 AFAIK -- Lava (bright red) and Salsa (dark red metallic).

after seeing a MaryKay vibe today I beleive there might just be a slight difference. It seems to be a little in between the 2 standard reds. But closer to the bright red.

Just to add to the confusion...I just did a Google image search and found one that is Salsa.http://www.pinkwithpassion.com/The best way to answer the "which one" question is going to be "was it metallic or not" I'm thinking...

I'm fairly certain '07s did not come in Lava, only Salsa. Sure solution: price out the paint with tax, and send her a money order.

Kari threw a curve ball in the mix with the Salsa pic. You'll have to figure out if it's a maroon/burgundy or a bright red color.

My car is lava. Lava is a manly color. Stop calling it Mary Kay red!

It looks like there was only Salsa, no Lava, in 07-08 so I guess they had to choose a new color for the Mary Kay Vibe and it was Salsa.Hopefully the original poster will come back to confirm if it was metallic or not so we can make sure she gets the right color.
