hit lift, finally

So for the most part, we drive like old folks to maximize the ol' fuel economy. However, today i was driving around minus the wife and child and got a wild hair to hit lift (owned the car for 8 months and haven't yet). Revved it up, let 'er rip, and she took off in fine style. Nice feature, although one I doubt I'll use much. It's fun and all, but most of the time I've got the family in the car or i'm on roads where there isn't really the room for it. So my question: is it good for the engine to crank it up every so often? I remember reading in Popular Mechanics that its not a bad thing to floor it every once in a while, to blow the crud out of the injectors or something along those lines. Is that true with the 2zz?

8 months and you've just hit lift for the first time!!! thats like a sin. j/k no, it shouldn't be bad for the engine, engineers design the engines and they get tested for a lot of hours and redline is there for a reason just make sure to shift

The only way you'll harm it is by over-revving it. But that's what a rev limiter is for.

Lift is similar to honda's vtec kicking in. Like adding nitrus in at a specific rpm. i mean kinda not like it will have tons of torq but...The 2zz loves to rev, it will not hurt it at all, in fact, I hear a kitten dies every time you dont hit lift

It's a great thing to experience In my eyes, it's the thing that REALLY makes the GT stand out from the base model. I couldn't live without lift...

I test drove all 3 models back in 03. Only reason I bought the GT was because it was FASTER! Was a fun little car for sure...

To be more technical here, lift is a second set of lobes on the camshaft that are activated hydraulically at a set rpm (6300+). Once the higher profile cam lobes are engaged, the valves open up more to allow more fuel and air to be dumped into the cylinder (at the expense of fuel economy of course). It allows for a higher performance engine, while maintaining the fuel economy that Toyota was after.

AHHHHhhh... I get it now. A second set of lobes, and more gas use...and more thrust.
