Would like some input on car (09 base vs GT) and MPG

I'm trying to decide something within the next week. Looking at a Red Hot Metallic Vibe (2009). Trying to decide either the 2.4L Base or GT. Both would have the 5 spd automatic. The GT is about $1700 more than the base, but of course better equipped. I'm trying to sell my 1998 Civic sedan 5 speed right not. It gets a consistent 32-34mpg highway. What's everyone seeing as far as MPG for the 2.4?Is the GT really worth the extra $1700?Any other input appreciated.

I think there was a thread about this. sounds like the 2.4 got 28-30 hwy and 24 about in city? You should see that car part list on the side window of the car, see how much they charge for parts on the GT that the base doesnt have and see if you feel its worth it. I personally just bought a GT speed3 over the sport edition because the features to me were worth the extra money and resale would be higher over the sport model.

I have had my 09 base Vibe (2.4L) since last Monday and got 31.4mpg on the first tank, 30.5mpg on the second. There is no difference in the engine between the base and GT, they are exactly the same. The extra $1700 will get you independent rear suspension, different front and rear bumpers, air conditioning and the monsoon audio system. That's it, other than the rear suspension, they are mechanically identical.

I'm happy with my GT. Just the look alone makes it stand out versus the 2.4L base model. I like the higher quality of the leather trimmed seats, the Monsoon system, and the feel of it. I figure it was a good investment and I would have regretted not getting it. And as I mentioned in other posts, I'm constantly getting positive comments on the rims alone. I'm a teacher and returned to work this week and I've already had a lot of my co-workers stop me and tell me how impressed they are. One co-worker wanted more information because she said this is exactly the car she was looking to buy, but just wasn't aware of a car like the Vibe. You only live once, go for it.

if you are considering the 2.4 Vibe you must take a look at the Scion xB. To me it is a lot of the same car for far less money. BUt i am one of the rare people who really likes how they look.

I have the AWD with the 2.4. I have been getting 24/25 city and 32/34 highway. This is driving easy. The worse I got was 30 mpg for a trip at 75/80 mph. Since the AWD has the same rear suspenson as the GT, it would be worth the cost. THis car is very solid on Colorado's mountain roads.
