Hello Vibe Community,I myself do not own a vibe (I own an Aztek, actually) but I am getting ready to take a 12 hr drive in a 2003 Vibe, and we are all a little curious on how much weight can the vibe carry without it seriously affecting the mpg? Anyone know? Ive googled, yahooed, asked Jeeves, everything and nothing online is of help. Were more concerned about our luggage, and we could not find it anywhere in the specs of the vehicle. If anyone has any idea, or knows of anywhere I can find that info, I would be greatly obliged. -Russp.s. When I ask this question, I am asking about everything INSIDE the vehicle, not on top, or being towed. Strictly inside cargo.

And the stuff on top counts too! Also towing will add to the strain on the tranny etc. the Vibe is not a Suburban you know.Any added weight will affect the mpg. Too much weight will affect safety.

I didnt mean to leave too much ambiguity in my question: we dont have any cargo on top of the vehicle, and were not towing anything. I only brought that up so that people wouldnt answer the question thinking thats what I meant. I simply want to know if there is a number somewhere that says the vibes max weight capacity is _____ lbs. Thats really all Im looking for here.

Simple. Check the sticker on the driver's door jamb. My 2007 says, "The weight of the passengers and cargo should not exceed 850lbs"That number is, of course, the recommended safe limit. You'd probably notice a decrease in fuel economy with half that weight. I believe several members here have reported in the neighborhood of 5MPG decreases with a lot of cargo. So it's not horrible... It'll vary a little depending on optional equipment, so the actual value is printed on a sticker inside the door jam. AIRC on ours it's about 850 lbs.Highway mileage doesn't seem to be affected too much by extra weight as long as you're not doing lots of stop-and-go driving. Our last long highway trip was from the SF Bay area to Milwaukee with two adults, two cats, a couple computers, and about two hundred pounds of books/clothes/etc. Still averaged just over 40 mpg at 65 mph and the AC on.OTOH, added stuff on the roof cuts highway mileage quite a bit. Got less than 32 mpg on the same route with a couch on top.

Well, if i'm hauling a bunch of stuff, i'm not overly concerned about my milage... It'll haul a BUNCH of stuff to...

I've taken 5 full size adults (my dad, two uncles and my brother), my brother is 6 feet and fit in the back no problem. We also have a folding table, portable chairs, additional clothing, two coolers, portable grill, all the things you need for tailgating in the hatch area. Drove an hour and 15 to get to Giants stadium and back for a game. Car made on just a half tank of fuel. Not to shabby if you ask me.And more recently it has carried several kegs and smaller logs. A kitchen table with all 4 chairs, 8' ladder with the hatch closed, and 10' pieces of conduit.
