What's the difference???

K,I've searched the topic and couldn't find the answer I was looking for. I have a local shop ordering me paint, from Sherwin-Williams(I believe), for my interior to match the exterior(Sublime/Envy Green). He asked me whether I wanted single stage or base coat and I told him what I was doing and planned on putting a clear coat on, so he suggested a single stage. So my question is what do I need? Is there a significant difference between the two? And are there any suggestions from those out there who have painted their interior?

Single stage is like a primer/base coat/top layer all in one. Usually works well on single color, smooth textured surfaces. If you plan on painting over several different colors or surfaces, you will need primer or the colors will be off. Base coat is good if ou want to hide another color well- usually requires less coats.

Should I have a plastic primer or will the primer I bought from my local hardware store do? I believe it is for exterior
