Amazing auto crash photos. http://www.10tv.com/live/conte....htmlTwo Fairfield County men were killed in a collision that closed I-70 near the Franklin-Licking county line and snarled rush-hour traffic this afternoon.Shane Yarnell, 27, of Pickerington, and John A. Murphy Jr., 56, of Baltimore, died in the crash between Rts. 256 and 310, according to the Granville post of the State Highway Patrol.A westbound 1998 Volkswagen Jetta driven by Yarnell crossed the median and struck an eastbound 2005 Honda Civic driven by Murphy about 3:20 p.m., troopers said. The impact sheared the Volkswagen in half, throwing Yarnell out of the car. Murphy was taken to Mount Carmel East, where he was pronounced dead. There were no passengers in either vehicle, troopers reported.Yarnell’s car also was struck by an eastbound 2004 Ford Ranger after the initial collision. The pickup-truck driver, Grace A. Morris, 38, of Shawnee, Ohio, was taken to Grant Medical Center in Columbus, where she was treated and released.Debris from the crash pelted another vehicle, and two vehicles collided trying to avoid the crash. None of the drivers or their passengers was injured. The crash occurred in Licking County near its juncture with Franklin and Fairfield counties. The eastbound lanes of I-70 at Rt. 256 were closed for slightly more than three hours, delaying the arrival home of East Side commuters. Eastbound traffic backed up for miles to west of I-270.The State Highway Patrol said an investigation into the cause of the crash continues. Murphy was wearing a seatbelt. Yarnell’s seatbelt use was unknown.

that was a jetta? (j/k.. but yeah, pretty hard to tell from basically nothing left of that car)My guess... high speed, driver tried to swerve or something... lost control, and veered over the median into on coming traffic...I feel bad for the driver of the Honda civic that was doing nothing wrong.

Blog reportI was at the scene moments after it happened, trying to help until emergency crews got there to take over. No, I wasn't and am not now looking for a "medal". I posted that the young man in the median had his eyes open which gave me hope that he was alive. That was all I meant about his eyes being open. As for posting "blood and guts", believe me, if I had wanted to give you all the gorry details, I could have but I didn't because that would be for what purpose? As for the possibility that the young man was under the influence, some of the people in the cars involved said they smelled a very strong alcohol scent coming from the VW. That's where the information about the driver "may have been under the influence of alcohol" came from...the people involved smelling it. I, personally, did not smell alcohol anywhere at the scene. There was too much smoke and burning rubber smells. The facts are this: the young man in the VW was flying on I-70. Witnesses guessed him to be going over 100 mph. He came across the median for no reason given. He hit the older man head on and caused a chain reaction when the VW broke in two and debris went flying. I have never seen anything like this. I can't get the images out of my head.
